That is one of my favorite arguments when recommending Office 365 subscription. You always have the latest release.
Another argument is flexibility. Your example, O365 Home, allows five installs. If you have used one install on a PC and do not need it anymore on it, simply deactivate that install on your admin panel, and install on a new PC. This will be a strong argument for Microsoft 365, too; Windows 10 digital licensing already made license transfer easy, Microsoft 365 for sure takes it to next level.

Furthering on my example, say I need MS office for 2 years, and then all of a sudden don't need it anymore. Well, if I bought 3 copies straight up for $149.99 each, that's about $450. WIth Office 365, I would have spent $198. With Office 365, I can discontinue my subscription and I am done. With physical purchases, I woudl have been out 2.5 times as much with no ability to recoup my costs.

Most people don't need or want the latest version, they are perfectly happy with whatever version they are using.

Yeah, if you have a version and you already paid for, that makes sense.
If however you are yet to buy it and are thinking about it, if you need more than 1 copy, it's going to be in your best interest to consider the subscription model.

@pparks1 that is a great example for it! I agree with @Kari if they made it available to home users I would want it.

What is there to be worried about? A subscription including both Windows and Office would be ideal for most average even advanced home users, as well as private entrepeneurs. I would subscribe the minute it came available!
Anyway, these new subscription plans for small and midsize business and bigger enterprises seem to be exactly what has been missing and what most IT admins have waited for. Simple deployment, easy central management, guarantee that all devices are always using the latest releases of both Windows and Office.

I so agree with this! Already on Office365, and would not mind Windows365 and WHATEVER_MS_365. Just pick what you need and pay a few bucks each month to have the latest software and transfer the licenses to new devices when getting rid of old hardware.
Everybody win, MS get revenue each month and the users always have the latest tools available.
