Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16232 PC + 15228 Mobile Insider
-
Hi Guys (and Guyettes, as the case may be)
First post here. Been a windows Insider forever. Knowledgeable but not a pro so go easy on me. I am having an issue with WMP not playing vid and sound files since build 16215. Does it seem to you folk the only fix seems to be a clean install of 16232 or should I go back to earlier builds? The error I receive is class not registered. The error only occurs if I double click on a music file and let WMP open itself. The error does NOT occur if I have WMP already open and double click on the desired file.
I thank any and all in advance for any assistance offered.
Yes, I know I could use other players but I like WMP., and really, it should work.
Haven't found a fix, (yet), other than keeping WMP open in the Taskbar.
I suspect WMP is on it's way out!
Why?
Cuz MS (I suspect) would rather you purchase music through the Music Store rather than rip your own CD's!!!

Yup! (Mine anyway)

My bad in posting to the wrong spot. Ignorance is bliss.......
I thank you all for what responses and suggestions you have given.
To those that showed interest I have 7TB of music all in FLAC. Yes, I am a bit of a music buff. I moved from vinyl to CD and now to FLAC. (Yes, am old, too!)
It is not that big a deal to clean boot but the ISO I have of 16322 seems too large for my drive (although it seems to fit the program says it doesn't) Can I clean boot from another HDD? I have 3 installed as well as an external "My Book" and an 8 TB external drive.
Apologies for asking what may be too easy to those that know and thanks in advance.
PS is it OK to continue here or would you rather I left to continue this at the correct forum?
Looks like the music question is answered, so on to the clean install part, which can probably live here. :)
I have a dual boot system; however, mine is on one partitioned HDD rather than two. As you probably already know, once Windows 10 has been on a system, the license carries over to newer installs. And a new hard drive doesn't affect the licence; I just replaced one in my lappy with an SSD drive.
In case you need it, here's a link to a Dual Boot Tutorial: Dual Boot Windows 10 with Windows 7 or Windows 8 Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

I wish I knew I was posting in the right spot.....
Again, sorry to be a pain.
Wynona, I am not sure what the meaning of Dual Boot, is. I can easily wipe my C drive. It is a 250 Gig solid state and let the new /replacement OS install from my D drive to my C drive. D is a 1 TB. I could also move the ISO to any of my outboard drives.
Having said all that, if the problem is going to persist I am not sure any changes are in my best interest.
Thanks to any and all for your patience.

Mine seems to be working ok, but I have no music stored at this time.

Yes, WMP will open fine and, if left open minimized to the task bar, it will play music files. The issue occurs when one attempts to play a file by double clicking on it WITHOUT windows media player being previously opened. It returns a "class not registered" error. The same file will play fine if WMP is opened first.

Some people here apparently doesn't understand well what the bug consists of, in other comments I made before in this forum and in another I explained what the problem was, besides, I don't understand why they want to send you to other forums when the bug has to do with these builds insider and NO, a clean install DOESN'T FIX THE BUG, I already tried it, don't waste time with that, In Microsoft already know of the bug and I guess they will fix it in the next builds
