    My understanding is you can defer upgrades, that doesn't affect updates though. Still doesn't bother me enough that I won't upgrade to Windows 10 on the 29th.

    The difference is the mandatory update for for certain versions of Windows 10 and its presently undefined life-cycle. The chances are that these are subject to change, depending on Microsoft's experience with the new way of supporting the OS...
