My most recent upgrade attempt failed and setupact.log had this at the very end.

    PHP Code:
    FatalError [0x090001PANTHR Exception (code 0xC0000005ACCESS_VIOLATIONoccurred at 0x00007FFF9D5F4F75 in X:\windows\System32\msvcrt.dll (+0000000000054F75).  Minidump attached (80589 bytesto diagerr.xml and X:\windows\Panther\UnattendGC\mndB3E.diagerr.mdmp
Any idea what could be the issue here? I don't have an X drive by the way so I assume that's a consequence of a dual boot or something.

Was there a "Fix" for 8 / 8.1 that would help us in Win 10 ??
Not as far as I know. That thread was 2,055 posts long with no particular "global" fix. Some were able to, some were not. I was one of the fortunate ones where sleep worked. Unfortunately my 16226 will not sleep, but my CU does. I've reported it in feedback.

Not that I remember, Wen. I was a participant in that thread although my computer went to sleep as it should have. I don't recall that the thread was heated; just that everybody and their dogs (myself included) offered up numerous and various solutions to no avail. Bottom line was that either your computer slept (as mine did) or it didn't.

Sleep is fine here. But I certainly remember the 8.1 sleep drama as my comp was one of those that wouldn't sleep!
I can place my PC in sleep but when I wake it up it restarts.

Yea, Wyn, don't know how many hours I spent trying to get my 8.1 to sleep. The only solution was win 10!

If you don't need to conserve battery power and all you want to do is blank the screen, set sleep to "never", and turn on the "blank" screen saver & set the timer. Works perfectly. My old monitor had a flaw in that when it resumed from sleep the screen was far too bright, and I had to manually turn it off and then back on to get the correct image, every time--so that's when I went back to a screen saver and fixed the problem for that monitor. I don't need to conserve power with my desktop and the blank screen saver does the job.

I'm using a three year old DELL XPS-8700 Desktop with new Samsung SSD (primary) and new WD Black 1TB HDD (just there for experiments) with a Dell 2410 Monitor. NO need to conserve Power like a Laptop.

Those members who can't reinstall .NET Framework 3.5 even in Safe Mode (failed for me, tried all possible fixes), you can reinstall it by mounting 16226 ISO image, opening an elevated Command Prompt and entering the following command:

    Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:W:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

(Replace drive ID W: with the actual ID of mounted W10 ISO.)

If you did not make 16226 ISO you can use any other W10 ISO, all Windows builds have .NET 3.5 install files in \Sources\SXS folder.

Weird...That is one of the first things I tried, long before I went to safe mode and it failed every time. Wish it had worked! Interesting thing was that it failed during the install, not the download, or the transfer from the disk, as in your example. Must be multiple causes of the .net 3.5 install problem, apparently!
