It's possible that way back when Microsoft may have owned a small stake in Norton's, or engaged in a temporary distribution partnership with Norton, but if so they have since divested and no longer do. But it wouldn't be accurate to say that Microsoft bought Norton's. The following link proves the case:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ns_by_Symantec

Symantec Bought Peter Norton Computing on September 4, 1990. Case clos-ed, as Clusoe would say...

The first AV Company Microsoft bought is featured in the Microsoft press release I supplied the Count. Back in the days of '95 and earlier, it was common for OEMs to put all kinds of third-party software in their package of junk software (because all of it was mostly trial software), and Norton's was surely included in many systems back then. I used every version of Windows from 3.1 on (before that I was strictly in C= Amiga land for eight years), and none of them included Norton's as a part of the OS. Indeed, I actually bought a few versions of Norton's, as did most people, back then, simply because there wasn't much else--and the original Norton's Utilities were pretty good for that era--not so hot today, however. Then Symantec, not Microsoft, bought Norton's and the rest is history. I've seen no evidence anywhere that "Microsoft bought Norton's"...but plenty of evidence that it was Symantec who bought Norton's, though. And like I said, I was using the AV program Microsoft bought, and according to reviews at the time it was much better than Norton's AV--which is why I bought it. That's the main reason I recall it as I do.

Internet rumors get started and often have long legs. I have run into a couple of misconceptions myself along the way that turned out to be rumor instead of fact--it's always surprising when you discover that something you long thought you knew, never was...I know from experience...

Well, you gave it the old college try, right?... Glad you did, but sorry it didn't work! Next build is right around the corner!

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16281

My Final Conclusions About Build 16215

While on WiFi, the Build downloaded and installed without a hitch. The problem, though, was that I had no Internet. I rolled back to Build 16199 and things were fine again.

After much discussion about the issue, I discovered I could move the Nighthawk Range Extender into the computer room and use an Ethernet cable to hard wire the computer to be "wired". Although that worked fine with Build 16199, things got really slow online.

Now that I had my computer hard wired to Ethernet, I decided to let Build 16215 download install again. This was a complete no go! Build 16215 would not install!

What I don't understand is why Build 16215 downloaded and installed "flawlessly" twice (I rolled back, then tried again, rolled back again) with WiFi, but would not download and install on Ethernet.

It has just occurred to me that (WAG) maybe this has something to do with the problems folks are having with installing Build 16215? Nah . . . probably not . . .

I hope so, Walt. This is one of the few times a new Build hasn't installed for me.

More probably it's because you rolled back once. If you really want to install it, you can try windows update reset - tutorial by Brink, it helped me. Update turned out to be real mess and have to reset Windows and reinstall all of third party apps....

Good side is, I have working Edge now and system is fine and snappy again (just Cortana is in constant error )

Oh, Thanks Andre! Not that I'm going to try for that again, but I'm pretty sure I'll need this tut for the next Build.

I have just rolled back to 16199 - can't deal with flakey 16215. Will wait for a new build. So @Wynona, consider yourself lucky that you can't download this build.

I tried about a dozen times, some download but most with .iso DVD using every workaround and "trick" I read about. Sometimes I got exact error as above, other times got almost 99% complete and get Green screen saying Can't find boot drive. For those of you who got 16215 to install and perform correctly, I salute you !! I myself, with dozens of others who tried and tried, only to achieve failure, will never try to install this ( IMO ) ridiculous, unfriendly Update again !!

I'm running 16199 with absolutely NO problems !!
