Bonjour, I am a bit confused
Is this tool in addition to Windows Defender ?
Should we run it manually or is it launched periodically in the background
Interestingly I got it successfully installed on 10th May, then again this morning (23rd) - same KB. Both through WU.
Hi D4ni3l,
It is not a tool like protection software, it scans and removes malware but nothing more.
These are the different key ways from which the tool differs in comparison with protection software
From Malicious Software Removal Tool in Windows Windows 10 Security System Tutorials
- The tool removes malicious software from an already-infected computer. Antivirus products block malicious software from running on a computer. It is significantly more desirable to block malicious software from running on a computer than to remove it after infection.
- The tool removes only specific prevalent malicious software. Specific prevalent malicious software is a small subset of all the malicious software that exists today.
- The tool focuses on the detection and removal of active malicious software. Active malicious software is malicious software that is currently running on the computer. The tool cannot remove malicious software that is not running. However, an antivirus product can perform this task.

I just got this but it was not downloaded by windows update but in the background by Windows Update Delivery Optimization! I think this feature is disabled and I'm pretty sure it was Delivery Optimization cause I noticed my crappy internet was too slow even for it's standards :)
I could see in task manager Delivery Optimization eating all my internet and downloading something but refreshing windows update like a madman would give me nothing to download. I run here and see this update but by now Delivery Optimization is not using anything related to internet so I checked for recently installed updates on the updates history and KB890830 is there with today date!
Any idea why this stealth installation? Should I worry about it?
should we be getting a patch tuesday style update today?
Along with a Window Defenders update there is also KB3150513 coming down on my RTM v1607 version.
