Word and other MS Office programs have a backup feature where they save work in progress in adjustable time intervals. It's not very transparent and files are not easy to find if you don't know where they are stored but that system can't be used for everything, it would take too many resources and disk space.
I gave up on System Restore as it is but still use when fooling around with drivers. What I would like to see is ability to backup any file by making copy of same file, in same place and to just add .BAK to it automatically thru Right Click menu for instance. Ability to set some time interval would also be welcome.
Windows 7's previous versions was pretty good for that. OK it wasn't a backup but was very useful.

The tool will be interesting but I still wonder if people will think of it as a backup tool and become complacent?
Who knows what lurks in the minds of "non technical" users. All I have to go on is my kids, some relatives, and some friends. Most of them just want to use the machine and forget the technicalities. I know I'm not the savviest around here, but one thing I was taught when learning how to use a computer was the 3 golden rules, especially with floppies back then. #1 Backup. #2 Backup. #3 Backup. I wonder if that's taught in our schools.

I feel MS does all they can to teach users. It's been staring at users in CP for years.

    And help. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ack-up-restore

Sheesh! In missing this Microsoft Build 2017 Live Stream thread here on 10F: Watch Microsoft Build 2017 Live Stream here May 10th to 12th 2017 - Windows 10 Forums

Shawn posted info about Timeline and a lot of other upcoming features there. A lot better explained than the interpretation of an author.

In my past life I did teach an In-Service Course to other teachers. My response to questions about backup followed along similar veins:
If it's important - back it up!
If it's really imporant - back it up twice!
If it's really, really, important - back it up three times, the third copy saved off site!

Buildfeed seem back to "normal". This build was just uploaded. Compiled Friday. A likely realease candidate for later this week.
