What originally started as a school project has now become something much larger. Kophosight is driven by a desire to make everyday life better for the deaf. Built on the Universal Windows Platform using Unity, with Microsoft HoloLens as the centerpiece, Kophosight translates the spoken word into sign language. When someone speaks to the user wearing a HoloLens, hands are displayed next to the person speaking that translates their spoken word into sign language, allowing for a natural conversation without both people having to know sign language.

App Creator of the Year

Some developers are pioneers, the first to explore and integrate the latest features in Windows 10 releases. This award honors those who made use of features like Ink, Dial, Cortana, and other features in creative ways.

Astroneer is set during a 25th century gold rush where players must explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives and resources in harsh environments for the chance of striking it rich. On this adventure, a player's most useful tool is their ability to shape their world, altering the terrain and extracting valuable resources from planets, and moons.

Reality Mixer of the Year
App demonstrating a unique mixed reality experience

Windows Mixed Reality lets developers create experiences that transcend the traditional view of reality. This award celebrates those who choose to mix their own view of the world by blending digital and real-world content in creative ways.

MyLab is an educational tool that lets users explore an interactive periodic table of the elements using the power of holograms. Spawn atoms, view their structures, and explore similarities and differences between different elements.

Core Maker of the Year
Maker project powered by Windows

Some devs talk about the cool stuff they could build–others just do it. This award applauds those who go beyond the traditional software interface to integrate Windows into drones, PIs, gardens, and robots to get stuff done.

Nova Underwater ROV

This underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) is run by Raspberry PI 3 with Windows 10 IoT Core controlled from a UWP app connected to motor controllers, servos and sensors. The core’s network switch services the Raspberry PI 3 and cameras. The robot is controlled using an Xbox controller via a power/network tether which runs through and out of the water to a control station on the surface.
