    Hi there

    Interesting stuff --thanks

Would be interesting since the NSA was messing around with this stuff and let the cat out of the bag -- to get the NSA / US Federal Govt to pay compensation to people effected by this -- after all it was their tinkering that opened this loophole and they were unable to keep a lid on it.

I hope ms itself submits an invoice too -- it must have had loads of people retro-fitting XP and W2003 server -- surprised anybody knows how those old systems even work from an internals point of view any more.

Should be an interesting Lawyers fest once this is all over !!!!.

    Cheers

Just been doing the same on this laptop, having read this and also this TechNet article (which was linked from the Register post).

I do wonder how many other bits of Windows are sitting there running and enabled (and possibly giving a risk) which I don't know about and am unlikely to need. I certainly didn't know what SMB1 is before today (and still don't know much now).

If you're on a fully patched Windows 10, then you are protected against this attack. Still, it doesn't hurt to have some protection. Confirmed by this article.

A live sample analysis, including registry keys being used, WSH included, who would have thought.

    Ransomware scare stopped

Yesterday’s global ransomware attack was scary for several reasons, but quick action by a security researcher at MalwareTech at least put an end to its spreading — although the researcher didn’t realize it at the time.
