    What?

In decimal system, as well as in software / OS versioning, isn't 10.1 and 10.10 the the same? Ten and one tenth. Maybe if they had started from 10.00 and continued with 10.01, 10.02 and sow on they had covered versioning for 50 years,
    ,

Actually Winuser has made a good point. The decimal point can be considered to just be a separator i.e.

major version . minor version. very minor version etc.

It is just a numbering convention - that's all. 10.1 could be considered as 10.01, 10.001, 10.001 etc.

10.01 would be fine - it will see me easily for the rest of my life!

We clearly need a new build to get back to the topic

    Anyway, here's the challenge:

Please provide a version history link to any application showing that for instance version 10.10 is later / newer version than version 10.9, or for instance that version 2.30 is later / newer than version 2.5.

If you look at the Intel Wireless Drivers it goes 19.0.1, 19.1, 19.2, 19.10, 19.20, etc..

Yeah - downside of regular build upgrades is they are relatively minor in new features, and it does not take long to get bored with an upgrade - LOL

Having not a faintest clue when or why you have been proven correct last time and what are you referring to, here's a simple request:

Please provide a version history link to any application showing that for instance version 10.10 is later / newer version than version 10.9, or for instance that version 2.30 is later / newer than version 2.5.

    Thank you in advance.

Admit, I agree with Kari on this. Logic is strong in this statement, but...

Since Windows 10 is the final name of the "overall" ongoing OS, I think MS simplified it as branches as in a tree. Versions, build numbers (denoted by the denary system), availability dates, and latest revision dates. Also, remember Windows 10 introduces a new way to build, deploy, and service Windows > Windows as a service.

This versioning discussion is somewhat amusing. In openSUSE dev land there was an extremely drawn out versioning discussion because it was decided that the next version of openSUSE Leap after version 42.3 (bizarre in itself) was going to be openSUSE Leap 15.

    OK. The challenge remains:

The same edited to avoid any misunderstandings:
