I had a U3 type USB 2 GB drive go bad. It just loaded down the data lines and completely confused the computer. It knew something had been plugged in but it was not sure what and it was not happy sort of locking the PC up. Strange how a little device loading down the serial buses gave so much grief. You think a PC would be smart enough to go "I don't know what the heck that is and I am going to ignore it" But no it kept trying to read it. I threw it away.

That's because it it physically and electrically connected to computer, same thing would happen if CD/DVD reader croaked or HDD.

Going by the saying that one picture is worth thousand words. So, thousand pictures would make a good sized novel by that math.
You do take a novel approach I must say.

Original, high volume CDs and DVDs are stamped, printed in the factory and are much more durable than home burned ones.
Absolutely. I remember many of the CD blanks I bought had a purple dye. That's all the laser is tweaking is the dye. With vinyl it was just the opposite. The mass pressings had inferior sound compared to LPs written directly from the master tapes. A guy I worked with had an upscale stereo system back in the day when LEDs on stuff was something new. He bought those white direct disc LPs. Really high fidelity. You could picture the performers playing live in front of you with that sound.

'68 to'73, I was a DJ in one of first discotheques in Yugoslavia (actually second one) and was getting fresh printed LPs and singles from discography clearing house in UK, Apple etc. They were so new that didn't even have printed labels but hand written ones. Had perfect sound on Lenco professional turntables, Marshal valve amp and Goodman speakers. Regular, store bought prints didn't have such nice sound. We attributed it to master plate wearing off after thousands of prints.
Digital recording on the other side, doesn't loose quality, no matter how many times replicated.
