http://www.buyapi.ca/product/sd-mmc-card-reader/ Simple and easy to use on my PC's that don't have a card reader. I can boot from a bootable SD Card inserted in this adapter. I bought it so I could image Micros SD cards for my Raspberry Pi but use them for a lot more than that. I have an SD to Micro SD adapter I use with it. If only my laptop could boot from its card reader.
My main problem with the automatic updates is that they tend to pop up at arbitrary times. I have actually seen people starting to give a talk at a conference and then having to stop because the laptop decided to reboot to finish updates.
In fact, this has to do with my main issue with Windows automation: all kind of stuff is scheduled to be done when the pc is idle, but by idle they mean absence of user input. If I leave the pc to calculate something that takes few hours I have to think ahead and turn all that stuff off otherwise it will go into maintenance and then sleep.
Using this "new improved system" you will need to perform daily OS backups, instead of just before installing "Patch Tuesday" updates.
Running W10 as a VM (using VMware Workstation for example) seems to be the way to go, because you can perform instant snapshots just before starting the VM.
