I'm sure if Windows phone had taken off, we'd never hear about the smartphone dying off.

Yeah, I am sure what he meant was that he was finally admitting MS smartphones are dead. MS can throw as much cash at it as they want they just get no traction in the market.

Well, if Microsoft could actually get Windows Phone together - and by that I mean make it competitive Re handset cost, selection, and performance, follow through on their promise to make operating system updates independent of carriers, etc - they might be able to get some market penetration.
