Just noticed a funny thing when I clicked on Start. Mail APP showed 6 messages at first and than started to count them down to one as in mean time I was using online Gmail and deleting messages as I read them. Mail APP kept them until Start button was clicked on but live tile counted them down as soon as revealed.
I just searched the Registry and not much is there on the Brother printers. Each one has one very long string of numbers that make no sense whatsoever to me.I hear you, Count. Forcing us to buy new cartridges of their make. Why? Ink has one of the most inflated prices of any material. As much as $8,000/gal according to the article below. They probably make more money off supplies than they do the printers themselves.

I'm wondering if the cartridge sensor numbers are recorded in the driver or the Registry.....
If you have an Internet/network-aware HP inkjet printer this is the *only* way to fly....Check it out--wife's been on it for the last year and I cannot believe how much money it saves, and the convenience of having the the black and color ink delivered to your door *before* you need it is wonderful. There are only three plans, and the most expensive one sets you back a whopping $120 a year....
I think it may only be available to US residents, though I am not sure. Highly recommended. I watched it closely in the beginning, it does exactly what it says it does. Will never go back to ordering ad hoc.
Oh, that existed since long time ago. We in my companies used it for tapes, laser printer cartridges and heat transfer film. Had a person come once a week and take out all empties and replace with new ones. Firstly, I'm thinking code via the driver is sent to the firmware of the printer that gives it the go ahead that it's a genuine cartridge. Not sure. Somehow it keeps track of ink level. I'm thinking by the per page and page size printed, which is not totally accurate cuz that estimating how much ink that takes. It's not like the cartridge has a physical gauge like a gas tank. Somehow data is being stored somewhere. I'd search the registry with your printer model to see what that returns.
I had never seen it, though, for individual home inkjet printers...;) In fact, it wasn't until after we bought this printer that we discovered this plan was available from HP direct--it isn't available if your HP printer isn't networkable, however. What you are talking about is likely a third-party coming in and offering your company those services--this plan is offered only by HP direct for its network-aware home/small-business printers. BTW, the $10 a month includes the cartridges themselves--as well as the shipping--if I neglected to say so earlier.
Your printer lets HP know via the Internet how much ink it has left, and the company ships you replacement cartridges (either color or black or both, depending on what you need) *before* you run out of the ink. The customer himself is responsible for putting the cartridge in--which is of course very simple...;) Nope, I think we are talking about different things, Mike...;) This plan is designed for individuals as opposed to corporations, etc.
Actually, it wouldn't be for me, Walt, since both my printers are Brother. If I were to go fully Brother Ink, I'd spend $240.30 per year for the XL cartridges. Amazon.com sells third party ink and I'd spend on average $90.00 for 3600 pages per year. I noticed that Brother has also gone the "subscription" route, with a 20% discount on their ink. Regardless, since Amazon stands behind anything sold on their site, I would be pretty safe with third party ink bought from there.
