    Installed on laptop...

Did the media creation tool and installed on USB. The update my Win 8 laptop using the USB. All seems to be good thus far. The whole thing took about 90 minutes from tool creation to updating the laptop.

The personalization page is tricky - they have the giant "Let's get started fast" which "automatically" set things up, including sending personal data to Microsoft and partners, then in the lower left of the screen in small almost miss me letters, there's the customize link for your settings. Oh those tricky Microsoft guys :)

Anyway everything seems to have gone well so far. The OS looks nice though I really won't know what's broke, lost or otherwise until I play with the machine for a couple of days. I'm sure by then they'll be threads and threads of mass confusion, frustration, or just the typical "it sucks I removed it" posts. Hopefully I'm not one of them :)

Oops... Norton is complaining about Edge not supporting extensions yet and how I'm not protected and thus should default back to IE, but I'll just ignore that one. BTW I'm running Norton Security and there doesn't appear to be any other issues thus far.

    Peace

Yes, that's what I have, and WU says I am up-to-date on my Insider system.

Just curious - did the upgrade uninstall your Norton, upgrade your system and then reinstall your Norton?

Wow, these forums just exploded in the last 24 hours with all 1 liner questions .... is this normal for these forums? Seems like no one is doing any searching on topics already covered. Just tons of new accounts with 1 liner posts and 1 pt count .... ?

No, it didn't. The only thing that I know for sure was uninstalled was Media Center, but we were told by Microsoft that wouldn't be supported on Win 10, and Win 10 also alerted me to the fact that is was going to uninstall it.

But, no, nothing happened to Norton. No uninstall/reinstall thing.

Steve it's looking great so far. I just need to do a bit more testing before I install it on my main rig, but thus far I've not seen anything to make me not want to install it. But, with any new OS, I'm sure there are some irritants that hadn't been discovered yet; hopefully nothing game breaking to keep it off the main rig though.

    Peace

That's interesting. Because I read that the install was going to remove any 3rd-party AV, then reinstall it. Maybe I am losing my mind, but I remember reading that somewhere...an Insider article maybe?

Well I can't tell you what happened in the background, but I highly doubt (as in pretty sure it didn't) it uninstalled and reinstalled Norton, especially since the AV needs a PID#. So.....

Is there a trick to make the ISO install any version be Home or Pro? Like in Win 7 you could find and remove ei.cfg?

No, no trick. Everything has changed in 10.

    No need to do that.

You can actual use the media creation tool, to choose which one you want to install. I don't know what the "N" by the second home and pro listed. You still have to upgrade first and yes the media creation tool will work for the upgrading. Make sure you choose create install media for other computers even if you are upgrading the computer you are using.
Actually there is a way to download the iso directly and they also will be Home and Pro in one single file. It took me a few moments but i figured out why some people only see the media creation tool and others can directly download the iso files: If you go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...d/windows10ISO on a NONE-Windows machine, then you will be able to choose your language and directly download the 2in1 iso file. But if you try to open this website from a Windows-machine it will only show you the download for the media creation tool (Halleluja finally microsoft was smart enough to realized that it is ridiculous that you need a windows pc in order to download windows )

So what does all this mean? Just install some user-agent-switcher for firefox or chrome and open the website again in order to download the iso file directly and to install Home and Pro from one single file.

I had the latest version of Speccy diagnostic tools on my PC but it disappeared after installing the 29 July version of Windows on my computer. Everything else on my machine is intact, but I guess Windows 10 didn't like the latest version of Speccy (I downloaded the latest version of Speccy fresh last week).
