He was getting that confused with a clean install of windows 10 not an upgrade install.
Here is how I understand it.
Windows 7 sp1 or 8.1 upgraded to windows 10 previews then upgraded to windows 10 release. You can choose to leave the insider program after the release is installed and windows 10 release will remain activated with no expiration date.
yes, that is exactly how i was understanding it as well.
anybody else notice the borders around the control buttons at the top of the windows(close, minimize...)? before there was nothing around them. they color just appeared when you moused over them, but now there is a distinct border around them.
The explanation, or should I say, unexplanation of what will happen on launch date. One thing is definite, MS will NOT be upgrading everyone on that day! It could be up to a MONTH before your "upgrade to Win10" icon actually, y'know, updates your computer. But we in the insider fast ring will definitely be the first! I think. What a confusing story.

no, i believe to leave the insider program, gabe just said you need to click the choice. if you came from a genuine win 7, 8, 8.1, then your os will remain activated. if you didn't, you need to go back through the steps to do so.
