Everybody's not going to be using that one key though? If they do that they can't block that key without blocking everybody. They aren't going to put the world on a VL key? There is still one more build or step to do on or after the 29th, IMHO.
I think what Dave44 is alluding to is that perhaps MS is moving to a different system of product validation than product keys - they have generated a machine ID for each computer, and know what that computer is 'entitled' to. The whole development/distribution paradigm is very different now, so who knows what role 'product keys' will have now.

Just curious. Does it give you an option to upgrade to Pro? If so, how much?

I'm thinking we may all get a free copy of Home, then pay to upgrade.
No, you get a copy of the version appropriate to the version you are upgrading from. This has been stated very clearly in a number of places, along with tables. E.g., Windows 7 Home Premium gets you 10 Home, Windows 8.1 Pro gets you 10 Pro. Zero mystery about it.

OK. Thanks. Would still like to know how much an upgrade to Pro is, although all mine are Pro. And Enterprise too if possible. Just curious.

Keys are a bit of an irrelevance - for years OEMs have churned out millions of Windows PCs with identical OEM keys, the only difference was the product key on the COA sticker which was unique to that PC. Those keys remained valid (and still are for earlier versions) until Windows 8 upgrade or Windows 8 OEM, where the keys were inserted in the UEFI, instead of stuck on the outside of the machine.

We do not yet know if there will be an upgrade path from Home>Pro as an "add features" instant upgrade, but it is unlikely that there will not, with the move away from expensive boxed software to online Store based electronic software distribution.
There was mention of a ridiculously cheap offer of $2, a few weeks past, in the news section here, but whether it was genuine or rumour, I don't know.

I'll tell you right now, Microsoft is not going to use one key for everybody running Windows 10, especially one that's been published to the Internet. That key is going to expire at some point and activation will fail if your still using it. Windows checks activation status every time you boot it up. If Microsoft blocks that key, and they will, activation will fail. If you don't want to believe me don't believe me. You've already made up your mind so go with it. I'm waiting until the 29th.

The thing is though, those Windows 7 OEM installs do not activate online, they activate against the BIOS SLIC table. What key is in use is irrelevant with that type of OEM activation. It's never checked and Microsoft can't block it even if they wanted to anyway. That's why they changed it with Windows 8. Now even OEM PC's get a unique key and they all activate online. Microsoft can police it better now.

I could be wrong, its happened before, still don't think so though. If you buy Windows 10 and do your first install, how do you prove ownership without a product code? There will be no record of that hardware ID for that PC on the server? Activation will fail if you use the code posted in this thread? And as mentioned, upgrading from Home to Pro? You need a code for that? If you could use the one posted, everybody would get an upgrade to Pro for free. Unless Microsoft posts more info though I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I just don't want to see somebody opt out before they should and end up in a pickle on the 29th.

I would assume that when you purchase a copy of Win10 you would get a key to activate it just like the other OS's.

That's what I'm saying, I don't think Product codes are going anywhere, as was suggested earlier in this thread. I just can't see millions of Windows 10 systems all on one RTM product code. I may eat crow over that statement but for now that's my view.
