    yeah, i saw that.
but here's the thing, you would be able to do the same thing with a rtm candidate, as you could with the rtm. so who knows? we will know soon enough. i just can't see m$ going to rtm without some fanfare. just seems that they are awfully quiet for a company that just went to rtm. gabe has done a good job of keeping us up to date, why wouldn't he have announced it? and remember so many were calling 10159, 10162 and 10166 the rtm, also.

Totally agree. And flash should be a thing of the past. It's just a security nightmare.
The trouble is that it is lot easier to do 2D animation in Flash than in HTML5 + JavaScript.

Adobe Flash vs Adobe Edge is no contest; Flash crushes Edge.

I'm pretty sure OEM's have been Insiders all along - they've been working with builds, testing drivers and such, and no longer need the 3 months that typically elapsed between 'RTM' and 'GA' back in the good old days. It's all different now. Windows is a moving target, and we all need to get used to it. It's a rolling release model...
Drivers are OEMs' least concern, although important. They know at planning stages of the "next OS" what will generally happen so as to start designing devices for a target market. Even before 7 was released MS started to design 8. Gates, the MS Board of Directors, Ballmer, and Sinofsky all knew then they had to get into the mobile game because tower PCs started to decline and sales of mobile devices started to increase. Touch UI was introduced in 7 along with Windows phone 7. WinRt in 8 desktop and an app store. Also during this period MS got heavier into the hardware business with the intro of the Surfaces. I'd imagine talks to purchase the Nokia phone hardware began around that time too. All designed to go mobile.

Kind of ironic that Sinofsky and his team were the brains behind 7 & 8 when so many liked 7 and disliked 8. I can only speculate why both Ballmer and Sinofsky eventually hit the road. I think they decided to push 8 out the door to quick. That's why 8.1 soon after, but it was too late. The damage was done. That caused a big wave. MS had to change course and Ballmer was too much of a relic to lead the company into those future plans. They needed more of a free thinker and Nadella filled that spot.

That's why we have the insider program and MS basically took 8.1 footprint and put training wheels on it and called it Windows 10. The basic footprint of 10 was introduced in the first build. Booting to the desktop like the option in 8.1 with a similar-looking 7 Start menu, which is nothing but a Start screen/All apps screen combo. Both Win32 and WinRt open and snap together on the desktop instead of different screens. They added virtual desktops to emphasize it and to give some hype. Whipty doo. Added more features from the phone such as Cortana and Notifications. Basically all designed for the Tablet Mode and mobile devices really.

They listened to Insiders somewhat such as where to place the Power button and other minor arrangements.

So here we are near RTM time where they will intruce 8.1 with more mobile features and training wheels.

So do we know if 10240 is the final/official RTM build number yet?
Or are we expecting another minor build increment before RTM is finalised?

That is what I am wondering too. I do not think there will be a change now. Only 8 days until release, do I would say it is it.

it's funny how the little things really make a difference to me. i mean, everything working so well is definitely the thing that really makes it, of course, but there are several little things that truly put it all together. for instance, the extremely thin little line of color around all of the windows, and my setting the titlebars to take the same color. not only do i have accent colors turned on, but i have a large collection of abstract images, and my background is set to change every 30 sec's, so the accent colors change with each pic. it really makes the whole system that much more finished.

I just don't see why leave insider program intentionally if not forced to, just quit participating and that's it. May change your mind later on but be SOL. Who knows what it can be useful for, maybe bunch of freebies, be first kid on the block with something new and exciting etc.
I don't think I will leave insider program as long as it's active even if I have to skip upgrading 8.1 if it's mandatory to quit IP.
