I would think if you did that on anything other than the official build on the 29th, your activation will time out for that Preview build. I'm assuming 10240 isn't the RTM build, it could be but I wouldn't count on it.
I think if you stopped the insider build too soon, you will see an expiration date but I think you would still get an opportunity to upgrade to windows 10 release if you upgraded from windows 7 sp1 or 8.1 I can see some people making that mistake.

    Just for info.
My showkey also shows information from windows 7 and I have a new windows 10 key with build 10240

“I want to opt out of the Windows Insider Program on 7/29.” If you decide to opt-out of the program and upgrade to the 7/29 build you will be subject to exactly the same terms and conditions that govern the offer* that was extended to all Genuine Windows 7 and 8.1 customers. This is not a path to attain a license for Windows XP or Windows Vista systems. If your system upgraded from a Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license it will remain activated, but if not, you will be required to roll back to your previous OS version or acquire a new Windows 10 license. If you do not roll back or acquire a new license the build will eventually expire."

that is extremely clear! this is exactly what i have been saying. and i haven't seen anything afterwards to refute it.
Agreed. That's the last I heard as well.

So, in my case, I clean installed TP9926 on a new HDD, and upgraded from 9926 through all the builds up to 10240. If I run ShowKeyPlus on my system, there is no W7 key found in my registry, but, it says there is a W7 marker in the firmware. At this point, I believe if I opt-out of the Insiders program on July 29th after upgrading to the final version, I will have an expiry date on my OS and will have to "roll back to your previous OS version or acquire a new Windows 10 license."

Why Enterprise? Because businesses use it and would like to test W10 for their businesses.

WightWalker, I have the same problem. Have not found an answer yet. But I think it has to do with no KMS server to activate to.
Fair enough, was just wondering why is all. Where did you download it from and what build number is it? 10074 is the only build available via the TechNet Evaluation Center, last time I checked. I ran it on my laptop download via official channels and had no activation issues. That was quit a while go now though. Do you actually use the enterprise features not available in Pro? Even if you get ti activated it will eventually time out and stop working.

i don't think so. if there is a windows 7 marker in the firmware, there shouldn't be any problems. however, i would NOT opt out of the insiders program before the last release. while someone doing this will still be able to upgrade, i think they will go to the back of the line, and who knows how long it will take. that is why it is mind boggling to me, all of the people on here messing with their builds, and downgrading back to old os's right before the rtm. yikes!!!!! this just isn't the time to be doing that. we are down to two weeks or less, why screw with it?

Thanks, I didn't have the option as to what version the upgrade would produce; in fact there's nothing on the start screen on this build at all, so I'm assuming it's Enterprise 10240.

Tried all the keys but none work.

M$ has made many announcements and have changed back and forth, that confusing us.

If your system upgraded from a Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license it will remain activated
If would be more clear that M$ can tell us about HOW to proceed this.

That marker doesn't specify what version of Seven was installed at the factory. What free version of 10 you get is dependent on what version you upgraded from?

i'm sure they will at the time, if it is needed. but for me, that is as clear as it gets. i don't know what else they need to say about it. what they said in that article is if you want to stay in the insiders program, you need to do nothing. if you want out, and came from a genuine win 7, 8, 8.1 system, you just need to click the button. if you didn't come from those os's, then you need to purchase a copy. it's as simple as that.

We did get the 10074 iso from the TechNet Evaluation Center a little over a month ago. I have only just begun to start testing within the past week tho. 10074 updated to 10166 with no problems 10074 was activated, then updated to 10166 via Windows Update. 10166 did not keep its activation from 10074. I was able to get 10166 activated and then updated to 10240 via Windows Update. 10240 did not keep the activation from 10166.

    Product Key
We are changing the product keys that are used in the Insider Preview, beginning with Build 10158. If you are prompted for a product key on Build 10158 or a later build, the new key for the Windows 10 Enterprise Insider Preview is CKFK9-QNGF2-D34FM-99QX2-8XC4K.
