Guys, I went from Windows 7 home premium to Windows 10 on my laptop. I then downloaded build 10162 and upgraded to Windows 10 by mounting ISO. Since then I have brought 240gb SSD. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 10166 and used the key on MS website. I am now on Build 10240 Windows 10 pro and its active.

when Windows 10 is released on 29 will I just be able to upgrade, will windows remain active. I do have recovery Image of Windows 7 incase i need that.

On start menu, cursor acts like it should be able to resize menu but menu doesn't budge. When scaling of 125% is selected, cursor doesn't want to stay close to right edge of screen and just jumps back to about quoter way back towards middle.

yeah, that's really wierd. i wonder if it might have something to do with your hardware settings. have you checked your mouse driver, and graphic's driver? maybe try a few different ones to see if that changes anything?

Yes. When Win 10 officially released, you will need to roll back to 7 Home to upgrade to 10 Home. Or, reinstall 7 Home and update the OS to upgrade. I assume your 7 Home is legit.

I hope so, and I think so, at least I'm planning on it ...at least at first anyway, that is until I want to fresh install again from scratch; but every new 10 build release so far and this b10240 too, I just mount the .iso and run setup and update keeping everything I had already setup. I also just delete that 10 GB! Windows Old folder to get rid of it since there's no way I would ever want to use it to go back that way, and if forced to in that case I would surly fresh install instead.

I've been updating from 10 though right along and had fresh installed the first b9841, but I would think it would be the same if I had upgraded from 7, but don't know for sure. I don't see why not though

Yeah its legit. I have Windows 7 home premium sticker on back of my packerdbell lappy. If restore the image back to Windows 7 and then use the Windows 10 build 10166 to upgrade. Is this the correct way? This way Windows will know I have valid Licence right.

there's still a lot of questions about this. my manufacturer said that there was something in the reg that allows m$ software to see which os you came from, and will automatically upgrade those computers that came from 7 or 8. the reason i asked them, is that i had just bought a brand new performance laptop, which of course came with win 8.1 on it, but since i hate 8.1 so much, i immediately upgraded it to my msa and windows 10. as you know, new laptops don't come with hard copies of windows, i don't have my original key for windows 8.1. so i am a little anxious to see how this is all going to work out, as i want to have one partition out of the insider program, and keep one partition in the insider program. i think they were saying that when you upgrade, m$ servers keep a registration of what os you came from. but not exactly sure.

Win 10 Preview Builds and Official Release are different matters. 10 Preview Builds does not track your Win 7 License. That's why you need to roll it back in order to upgrade to Official Release after 29.

Thanks Mate. So what you are saying is Install Windows 7 back and wait till 29th or wait till I get message to update to Windows 10.

I am loving this build so much I was hoping I didn't have to do that. Can I not wait till 28th restore Windows 7 and reserve Windows 10 . I already reserved Windows 10 before new SSD was bought. I take it I will have to install million updates before I get reserve message again on Win 7.
