Let's take a look at both for comparison.

    Attachment 30531

    Attachment 30532

Ok, so we've seen CP grow to a fairly "monstrous" size over the years. It is also something we've been using for so many years that it's engrained in our minds. Question is, is it change for just change's sake or is it a change for the good? IMO it all depends on how we look at it.

If we look at it from a standpoint in understanding MS's objective of succeeding to implement one OS platform across all devices with mouse, keyboard, and touch (to include pen and/or finger) input, then I think we can say it's for the good for it for it compliments all those. This is also to include that the app will adjust to any size screen at any resolution. That cannot be accomplished with the old Win32 CP.

I guess the only other conclusion is that if we want to remain with the old way of performing system configuration without including multiple devices, then the change is not good. I don't know any other way to put it.

If we note the subcategories listed under each category in Settings app I would tend to think it to be better for the commoner to lead them to as to where to make a change, assuming when it's all completely ported over. Also, I would tend to think they shouldn't be tinkering with half of what's in CP for to mess up their systems. How many times have we seen that? IMO it would detour them from doing such. For the most part all they're really interested in is maybe changing a color scheme or desktop background and go their merry way to surf the web or social site.

LOL! "Dad, I messed my Windows up! Can you fix it?!!" > "What did you do now?!!"

BTW, I'd like to know how many PCs are used for consumption vs work. That would be interesting to know.
If you want to compare those two, then set view to "By category" in old Control panel.

Oh! OK. I only have a 11.3" 'droid, but I'd be happy to put Windows 10 on it if it's ever possible. :)

It doesn't support all chipsets and CPUs and is almost defunct as separate OS being replaced by W8/8.1 and now 10.

LOL, Count! I've been using icon view for so long that I didn't think of that. That view is default.

That makes my post moot except for the touch aspect.

Windows Runtime - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To quote the article early on:

"WinRT" redirects here. It is not to be confused with Windows RT.
On a Windows RT device one cannot run legacy Win32 apps/programs due to the hardware architecture, mainly the CPU type.

Old one was getting overcrowded, everybody and his brother started putting stuff in it. Realtek, Revo, MS Outlook, Flash Player, Java, Avast, all had their entries in it. I could just imagine trying to pick and use those things on a small touch screen.

Two entirely different things. Windows RT is an older operating system for tablets.

Yes. Great addition to my point. Wonder if MS will let them make additions to the Settings app or do it another way such as in the app? Most of those apps have control settings in them, yes?
