People are calling last cumulative update SR1 but it didn't arrive yet.
    Hi there

Would you buy a New car (Not a USED one) if you had to take it back to the service centre for "Updates" / "Repairs" within DAYS of driving it away from the Showroom.

Why should we all expect to have to apply a whole slew of SR1 updates within DAYS of getting RTM -- surely BEFORE RTM Ms should have got the OS reasonably ready for Prime time.

Actually I'm quite satisfied so far --got no idea what SR1 will bring to the table -- possibly some hardware updates for people with really crazy or unusual hardware.

    Cheers

Happens, its called a recall. Plus there is a big difference between hardware (car) and software (operating system) Did you really think there wouldn't be patches shortly after release? What dream world do you live in? If you've been using Windows as long as you say you have, you should have expected this to happen. Why should this release be any different that any other?

Somehow reading this thread (and many similar ones) I get the impression that users are complaining about the conditions of the free gift from Microsoft. I believe there's much truth in the old saying "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth"¹, especially when MS made the conditions quite clear prior to the launch we should simply either accept the free gift and use it as the conditions state, or forget it. No one forces us to continue testing new builds, no one is forcing us to use Windows 10.

You had an Insider Preview installed prior to the launch, now upgraded to final version? As MS has made really clear you have to stay as an Insider opting either for the fast or the slow ring upgrades. That's the deal you got, that's the conditions of your free gift. Your Windows 10 on that machine remains valid and activated as long as it "stays alive". You are of course totally allowed to opt out whenever you want to, at which point your options are to install a qualifying Windows 7 or 8.1 and upgrade it to Windows 10, or to buy Windows 10. Again, this was made very clear before the launch.

If you have upgraded from a qualifying earlier Windows, you can opt out anytime you want to. Your device will remain activated, you don't have to be an Insider nor opt in for test builds.

If any of these conditions are uncomfortable or unacceptable to you, you have a lot of choices. Buy a Mac or Chromebook, install a free Linux or restore that old laptop of yours to Windows XP it originally came with and continue using Windows "as it always was".

Whatever you do stop complaining about MS forcing you to do this and that because, as you very well know when you think of it, it simply is not true.

    Kari

Do not unappreciatively question a gift or handout too closely.

I'm actually looking forward to those SRs or whatever they call it. Also nothing against any repairs updates bring. We were all clamoring for W10 to get here sooner and every new thing has to be run in when new, just like cars when we are already comparing with cars. Drive slowly in the beginning, compulsory services etc. as well as repairing some early bugs (yes cars come with them too).
I should know, been working in automotive industry many years and heard many horror stories about new cars, specially new models, please don't get me started with that, it's never ending story.

Nope, much prefer the Windows 8.1 Start Screen/All Apps Screen to the Windows 10 hybrid Start Screen/Start Menu. I don't see them backtracking now though. Still if it was a selectable option like tablet mode, I'd be happy.

New Start menu is not a punch and go with the keyboard as the Start screen is. Start menu is terrible to navigate. Page up/down and Home/End doesn't work in it. In 8.1 Ctrl/Tab gets me to All apps screen instantly from Start screen. No digging/scrolling through All apps menu.

If I may add > I like Cortana for some features and I think it'll be improved over time such as on the phone, but at this time search in 8.1 is better. More choices of where to search. It opens results in it own WinRt screen saved to reference to if need be, whereas Cortana opens an Edge page or tab then when pressing a result there one loses the original result page.

BTW, Alpha, did you see I'm now duo monitoring? Not that I know it all that well in 8.1 yet for I just started, but it seems like its better in 10. What are your thoughts?

All in all it's like Kari just stated, it's free, but free doesn't necessarily make it better. 10 does have some good features we'll never see in 8.1, though. Kind of a tradeoff for me at this time.
