I don't think this last update was actually SR1, found this on that theme: Microsoft to Launch Windows 10 Service Release 1 on August 10 - Report - Softpedia
That news was posted two days ago in the news forum: Windows 10 Service Release 1 Inbound for Next Week. Been posting in it since it appeared.

People are calling last cumulative update SR1 but it didn't arrive yet.

Nobody is forcing you. Not Microsoft, not anyone else. You have the choice and you do as you prefer. The "rules" were made incredibly clear already before the launch:

     1. Activation status after July 29th

("Windows 10 remains activated" in below list means it remains activated on the device in question.)

    • A clean installed Windows 10 Insider Preview
      • User remains as an Insider opting in for the upgrades, Windows 10 will remain activated until the user opts out
      • User opts out from the upgrade builds, Windows 10 will no longer be activated. User needs to install a qualifying valid OS and in-place upgrade or buy a Windows 10 license for a clean install

    • An in-place upgraded Windows 10 Insider Preview, upgraded from a qualifying valid 7 or 8.1
      • User remains as an Insider opting in for the upgrades, Windows 10 will remain activated
      • User opts out from the upgrade builds, Windows 10 will remain activated for the lifetime of the device because the qualifying OS was valid

    • An in-place upgraded Windows 10 Insider Preview, upgraded from a non-valid 7 or 8.1
      • User remains as an Insider opting in for the upgrades, Windows 10 will remain activated until the user opts out, being in the sense of activation and license the same as a clean installed Windows 10 Insider Preview
      • User opts out from the upgrade builds, Windows 10 will no longer be activated. User needs to install a qualifying valid OS and in-place upgrade or buy a Windows 10 license for a clean install

(Red font: only option for those who upgraded from a non-valid 7 or 8.1 to keep the free Windows 10.)

I guess you can't get any clearer then that

And yeah, you don't have to upgrade to Windows 10. It's no like Win 7 & 8 are suddenly becoming extinct... at least not yet.

Yes, and I've been correcting people left and right on this, especially since the SR1 news arrived.

    An in-place upgraded Windows 10 Insider Preview, upgraded from a non-valid 7 or 8.1. . .
Insider opting in for the upgrades, Windows 10 will remain activated until the user opts out,
One thing we need to remember is that we now need to opt in for the Insider Builds.

Go to Settings>Advanced Options>Get Insider Builds>Get Started. Then follow the yellow brick road.

One thing of interest was that I followed the above, but when I checked, I got the infamous "Fix Me" which consisted of the sole choice of Opt Out, so I did. I then went back to Get Started and followed along; this time I'm told I'm ready to get Insider builds.

    YMMV

    Why?

I'd rather get my "updates/upgrade" when they go final.

I never left insiders, and my laptop still says I'm in.
    Never had to do anything.

I was assured that I can keep insider version on one disk and convert 8.1 to full retail version on another one (whenever it goes thru).

Oops, sorry for the misstep! I forgot I had done a clean install, so I'll revise that to If you see this!

If you see this, and you've done a clean install, you might need to revise "Get Insider Builds" in Windows Update.

If you don't "Get Started" you may not receive any more Insider Builds.

I hope this clears things up a little. BTW, my clean install of Build 10240 is activated.

You still have the Get Insider Build as you posted on an upgrade as well, but I chose not to participate at this time. And yes, when I clicked it, it offered but I backed out. In fact when I upgraded my desktop through GWX it offered but I backed out.
