MS' Licensing and Activation systems (like all DRM systems) just cause problems for, and waste the time of, legitimate users.

People using the pirated versions never have to struggle to prove their systems are "legitimate"; they just work out of the box.

Since the beginning of this thread there has been total confusion over how to install a clean copy of Win 10 Insider Preview and have your Insider account stay active and working. This of course is even far worse now since we got the RTM version. Personally I don't understand why this so difficult and why even the Pros cannot come to a consensus, even when people's circumstances are the same. There such varying opinions that I am even afraid to try because I don't want to lose my Insider status.

I have been testing Microsoft products since MSDOS was first released and they have been overly kind to me over the years, I'd really hate to be forced into quitting testing now.

    Duhh.
I think I saw that Abacus somewhere in - was it The Louvre in Paris. First Binary machine - Bead or No bead although of course the beads were arranged in ten's.

BTW it should be ARK - that's a sort of Boat / Ship. An Arch usually has something like a Bridge running over it.

    Cheers

I remember my uncle buying me my first electronic calculator with digital display. All it did was add/subtract/multiply/divide and it cost $450 Quite a sum of money for back then.

OK so I got up early and downloaded the Media Creator Tool and made a new USB flash source to install Windows 10 with. I installed with my Insider credentials, and I'm logged in that way now. It was a fresh installation. I also enabled the download of Insider Builds using Settings -> Windows Update -> Advanced. It restarted after applying some updates.

Now I'll wait for either "activation" or whatever it is I need to await, so that I can customize my system.

Have you ever upgraded from a previous activated version of Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on this machine and verified that Windows 10 was activated after the upgrade? If not your "fresh installation" is probably not going to be/become activated.
