Probably no help, but I would suggest you download the Media Creation Tool to the desktop affected and instead of burning to disk, run the tool and choose Update this PC. Since nothing else has worked, it's worth a try.
If what I think happened, actually happened, I'd be clean installing Windows 7 just to be sure the PC isn't infected and compromised. I'd recommend changing any banking site passwords etc too.

Is this official? Nothing official of which I am aware. Is it perhaps a glitch in the activation process for situations specifically like yours? Probably. If you ever get to the point where you feel everything is really terrible and you need a clean install, I would try a RESET first. If you do decide to do a clean install, I would use the Pro version, to remain the same as how the system was activated. However, your best bet is to make images (using Macrium Reflect Free or some similar program), so this never becomes an issue.

Just out of curiosity, check your key and see if it ends in 66t (do not post the key here)
    Showkey - Windows 10 Forums
Yeah Key ends in 66T on my Laptop thats running Windows 10 Pro. It also displays Original key but Original edition says "Key not supported by this OS" and OEM Key says "Windows 7 OEM marker present in firmware.

On My Windows 10 PC which I clean installed after upgrading from Windows 7 pro to Windows 10 shows different key altogether. Before clean install it showed Key ending with 66T however after clean Install it has new key. It does not show original key at all.

After typing slmgr /xpr is CMD both Laptop and PC say windows 10 pro is permanently activated.

Original key won't show on a clean install because its read from the Windows Registry. No previous OS means no stored key for that OS. that's interesting that the key changed on a clean install. Have you googled the last 5 characters to see if it shows up on the Web? I've been thinking of doing a clean install on one of my desktop PC's. It went from Windows 7 to 10074, then every build after that to 10240. 6+ upgrades via windows update.

I have searched on google it looks like it could be generic key for a clean install. Check this link here and here in comments section.

That's what I was wondering, one for an upgrade, and one when you clean install. Either way its still a common key. If it was unique it would be worth recording for future use on that PC.

Yeah I will be keeping an eye on this. I am not in insider preview on both system and Windows 10 is activated on both. I hope I don't run into problems after few months. I will have to wait and see.

How come insider edition is not getting those updates, all I've seen are Defender updates, small at that. I thought us insiders would get everything first.
Btw, my 8.1 is still not offering to upgrade to 10.
    Edit.
Ooops, spoke too soon, this just showed up.
    Attachment 27365
Just about to push that button.
Count, that sat on my computer for two days and I finally decided to go the Media Creation route, which installed Windows 10 without a hitch.

Yeah, that might be the smartest thing to do at this point.

My experience. ... [snip] Tried 3 more times over next 24 hours with same result. Followed a link to MS tech support off error message. Allowed MS techo to take control of my PC. He said my internet data was being hacked by China location. He offered to fix it for one month at $299, or 12 months for $500.... [snip]...Comments please?

What link where to Microsoft tech support did you follow? That was not Microsoft. They would not charge you like that for that. IMHO You were scammed. If you gave them control of your PC, and it was not Microsoft your PC and all its personal info has been compromised. Big time. The can likely log back in anytime they want too. It's an on going phone scam around here. They call, say they are Microsoft, and that your PC is infected and they can fix it. Then they log in and install spyware. Then they remotely block your PC from the Internet and demand money to fix it and unlock it. Then a month latter they do it all again.
I agree with Alphanumeric. I would be clean installing W7 with a complete HDD format to be sure.

Has anyone tried upgrading from ISO without an internet connection?

I saw a post where someone did that, Simrick, but of course I cannot remember which thread it was in. IIRC, they upgraded, left the Internet, clean installed and then reconnected to the Internet.
