Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16179 PC + 15205 Mobile Insider

Interesting how folks are having issues with Office 365 products on this build. No issues on Excel or Word, plan to use PowerPoint this weekend, will see if I am having issues.
Of course, on IP build of Windows, I am also running IP builds of Office, so....
I'm not having any problems with Office either, John. In fact, I just checked and it's downloading updates.

I am re-installing Office 365. It was difficult getting to the site where I could download it - should be OK.
Installed Bash for Windows. After I do this I then install xming (Xming X Server for Windows download | SourceForge.net) so I can run X programs and then install synaptic and go from there (e.g. install thunderbird etc)
Yes Office 365 installed and is activated. And all Outlook accounts (including Gmail and Yahoo) are OK. I will switch to Office inside fast ring. I'd appreciate it if anybody can confirm Mail problems with Gmail and/or Yahoo Mail on this build.

Hi there. I would check, but I have no other accounts but Outlook.
The only problem I had in Office so far was in Word. It displays pages side to side when indeed it's set for vertical, although the setting in the View tab was set for in line. I performed the short repair within Apps to no avail, but performed the online repair and it fixed the issue. That repair option in Office is the cat's meow.

Same. Every VM I install WinX on had this issue after install where it goes to black screen and stops doing anything.
During updates on the same VMs, it is hit and miss, usually not occurring, but sometimes it does.
Using VMware Fusion 8 for my Windows 10 VM's with all CU IP's YTD! No issues with black-screens and/or stalls of the OS whatsoever!
Any settings in your VM that - perhaps - need to be reviewed?
Cheers

None that I can see, and I have reviewed them all. For one thing, Hyper-V on WinX, and I have triple checked everything I can. It is 100% consistent on New installs, having used different .ISOs (and various public release builds).
I am re-configuring my network at present, just updated to the top tier in my area from my ISP, providing now for 330 Mbps downstream and 33 Mbps upstream, but for the last week my sleds never changed from my previous tier. Turns out my router was, for whatever reason, slowing me down, but a complete nvram erase and firmware flash has fixed that.
Gonna be downloading .ISOs at ~30 MB/s when all is said and done

hey guys. i'm new here. reading some of the other threads, and thought i would come look at the latest news in this thread. So it seems like several here are also experiencing the black screen of nothing after updates? Has no one come up with a solution to this yet? I saw what kari wrote, but I don't mess with vm's.
I traced my problem to newest (17.4.3) driver for AMD R7 260 GPU.

The only issue I have with VMware is that when I choose the 3D accelerator, my screen stays on black-screen. But of course that's a VMware Fusion driver vs gfx-card thingy!
Wow, cool speed-bump you got yourself. The conversion will set your DL speed to ~ 41,25 MByte/s and that's nice.
I'm still very happy I upgraded to Fiber 500/500. I need that high UL speed for my Back-up Online, as I have a lot of VM's / Winclone (full SSD Window 10 clones / Photo- and Video data-sets.
Good luck and enjoy your fast internet! [emoji41]

I traced my problem to newest (17.4.3) driver for AMD R7 260 GPU.
- I've had to roll back to 17.3.1
- hope they sort things out
- DX12 and Crossfire is glitch-ridden on 480's with 17.4.1 and 17.4.2
- also, some older games in DX7 and DX9 won't load..
could be the 16179 build or the AMD gfx drivers,
not sure which, but they don't mesh together well at the moment
occasionally I get a complete drop-out of resolution, via the Samsung monitor
sometimes this causes a complete system-freeze and a restart is required..
- something not quite right in the code somewhere, perhaps..(??)
-
It might not be Creators but builds after it. First one refused to install at all until that driver was removed and 16179 gave black screen after installation but worked in safe mode where I used DDU to uninstall drivers. At last attempt it only partially installed and could not be adjusted for multiple monitors or primary monitor.

The easiest workaround I know, a solution that works every time is to use a virtual machine as "
Get the upgrade" machine.
Using Hyper-V it would go like this:
- Download latest official ISO for your edition and bit architecture
- Install it on a VM. Skip the product key when asked, for this purpose Windows does not have to be activated
- Before opting in for Fast Ring, update VM fully
- When updated create a checkpoint
- Opt in for Fast Ring, restart
- Download upgrade. New fresh installs find it usually immediately
- Make your own ISO from upgrade files, restore VM checkpoint (step 4) to be ready for next build upgrade
- Upgrade physical machines with your ISO; a computer does not have to be opted in for Insider Builds to be able to use them
- When next build is released just repeat steps 6 to 8
Kari
That's all well and good --but I have no intention of installing a VM to fix this "problem".
So, it there any other known workaround that gets this Update installed?
Or do I just have to wait until the next one rolls out?
