A matter of personal preference.
How large is this update? Talk of clean installing sounds pretty major...
Do you mean the size of the ISO file?
For 1511, 1607 and now 1703 I've always used the MCT to make the install media and upgraded manually. The download of the .iso (or USB) is over 4GB for 64-bit, a bit less for 32-bit. Through Windows Update you would be downloading a similar setup package, so the download size would be about the same.
Personal preference, really. Some like to make a clean break at each new version. Others (like me) prefer a progressive upgrade from one version to the next. Downloading the .iso give you the option to do a clean install should an upgrade have issues - not that I've ever had any.Just wondering why clean installing is being mentioned
It should - but folks have been having issues, and Micro$oft is warning users notto install CU just yet.
