can anyone confirm or supply info on if the update will actually work when upgrading via the win update assistant ??? i tried at least 2-3 times and it always got stuck at 32%. i had tried different methods from clean install but nothing worked... the issue was becoming to time consuming so just gave up and decided to leave it.

    Yes x 3!
I got impatient waiting so I used one of my test PCs running Win 10 Pro.

First I installed "Windows 10 Creators Update Privacy Settings" (KB4013214)
This lets you "Choose your privacy settings for the Windows 10 Creators Update."

I then ran the Windows 10 Creators Update Assistant which I'd previously downloaded. It first updated itself, THEN performed the update to 1703 OS Build 15063.483.

This took a long time (at least 3 hours) on the old (under-powered) PC mentioned but eventually succeeded with NO interaction from me other than logging in when told to.

Having done that I reset all my carefully chosen Windows settings as discussed in this thread. Things like enabling System Restore, putting Control Panel on the Start Menu etc. etc.etc. etc........

Having done all that, I repeated the process on my Tosh laptop running Win 10 Home, and finally on my main PC running Win 10 Pro. The latter 2 were appropriately faster but I didn't log exactly how long.

Suffice to say that all are now running Creators Build. My Office 2007 and various other programs all work and so far I've had no problems, except, as I mentioned, re-configuring Windows the way I like it.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that the main PC also did some updates a few hours later - one failed - Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB3213643) but automatically retried itself and succeeded. The Event Viewer has no errors in it - just Warning (due to the failed Outlook update) and Information events.

Glad for your success. I have updated two laptops and one desktop but one of my desktops just has problems with updating. First time I tried was back in May. It updated with no problems but could not get the Microsoft Office to registered the License. Talked to MS office support several times, they were useless. So, I rolled back to Anniversary Edition. I tried recently again with the download assistant. After the install, the problem with Office arose again. In addition, none of the native apps would work. So, one again I decided to leave it alone and rolled back to Anniversary Edition and if at some time in future update decides to download it, I'll try again. Until then, I'm sticking with what I have

I just installed the Creators Update from WU on my laptop and the installation went smoothly. It took less than 1 1/2 hours start to finish. So far I haven't noticed any problems.

Yep, mine is still in the oven too. Checking windows update most days since the privacy settings KB got pushed a couple weeks ago but nothing still being offered! I often click check for updates manually but it always only finds defender updates and says I'm up to date on 1607. Seems odd considering the link Brink showed. What gives MS? I get all the other cumulative updates for 1607 no problems but 1703 is still missing in action. I know we can manually install it but really the vast majority of users are not savvy and rely on windows update to provide the updates.

Reading the link that Brink posted (#176 above) and the link within it to MS Blogs, I had a thought.

Could it be that the reason some people are NOT getting CU via WU is that at some stage in the past, they blocked it either intentionally or accidentally? For example, when my machines were running Win 7, I applied all the blocking measures I could to block Win 10 (remember GWX?) including making Registry changes. That way my machines were updated when I was ready to do some work, not when MS wanted them to!

To this day my Windows 10 Update page in Settings displays the message "Some settings are hidden or managed by your organisation". If that means that I'm still in full control of updates I'm all for it!

However, might that be the issue for some people here?

It's a good theory but I've never tinkered with mine. My machine came new with windows 10. I cannot believe that running SSD, skylake and nvidia 980ti it could also be hardware holding it back! Especially if I got the privacy settings KB almost 3 weeks ago too

Doesn't seem logical does it? My last remaining PC is a venerable Dell laptop running Win 10 Home. It got the privacy update last week so I shall see whether it updates to CU this week - otherwise it gets "persuaded" too.I'll report on here.....
