Are Registry Cleaners Still Needed on Windows 10?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2015

Registry cleaners and system optimization tools have been around for a while, and millions of users turned to them to boost the performance of their Windows computers.
But with the arrival of Windows 10, fewer users are actually interested in such apps, as it seems that Microsoft has more or less improved the operating system up to a level where third-party optimization solutions are no longer needed.
A long discussion on reddit questions the performance of CCleaner on Windows 10, as the app has been intensively criticized lately, with a Microsoft employee who posted in the thread explaining that bugs and compatibility issues were the ones responsible for the “new” bad reputation of this tool.

Of course not; Why Using a Registry Cleaner Wont Speed Up Your PC or Fix Crashes
And they have never ever been needed

    1. Windows 10 isn't a magic solution for programs which, when uninstalled, leave behind detritus.
    2. Trying to remove such detritus from the registry has no performance benefit and presents considerable danger.
    3. If you want to keep your PC (relatively) clean and do a lot installing and uninstalling, use a reliable program that monitors installation such as Revo. Geek uninstaller is also good.

Every now and than I have to prove to somebody that registry cleaners are not necessary by turning on Ccleaner. I never have more than ~10 entries and even those ones are missing entries from internet.
    However, I use Revo unistaller.

Just because it is said by MS, it has to be true, that would be the first. I prefer facts over fictions and even on this forums it has been confirmed, that reg cleaners are still needed and as long as Windows will keep using registry, they will be.

The problem are not reg cleaners, but that they are being advertised for bad reasons, like boost you performance by 200-1000%. The more percentage, the better reg cleaner. There are benefits, but performance gain is more like a side effect.

BTW talking about reg cleaners and mentioning CCleaner?! That is talking about sport cars and mentioning Rolls-Royce.

If you keep house (Windows) clean, no need for a maid (Registry cleaner).

That is a great comparison, you never mop or clean your floor? It can not be helped, it gets dirty, just like Windows.

A few months ago, MS deployed an update to clean registry to fix windows updates, so theirs saying is quite hypocritical.

Yes I clean it (Revo uninstaller), it cleans up the spots BEFORE they get to dirty it.

I use Wise Uninstaller, but there are other things, not just leftovers from setups, like from bad windows updates.

Been using registry cleaners for years, never had a problem. As far as CCleaner goes, its a VERY mild reg cleaner, compared to other reg cleaners. But I do agree with TairikuOkami
