    Hi Guys

Upgraded via the Update assistant with no issues except a slow download. Does anyone with location services active have the location icon permanently on in the taskbar. It pops up about ten minutes after a reboot and never goes off. I cant track down whats using it. Any ideas anyone.

Hi there. Most likely Cortana I would guess, but it should only appear once in awhile.

That was my first thought but after switching off cortana's location tracking and all app location tracking it still pops up unless I turn it off totally.
Are MS tracking who or where people have upgraded I wonder

MS will know individual devices that upgraded via digital validation I would imagine. This may be a buggy release, so your problem may show up with other users or may be fixed upon a future update.

In the mean time, have you rebooted a few times to see if that fixes it?

Are you signing in with a MS account?

I've done 3 Update Now's, Home, Pro and Education. And one setup.exe from a mounted ISO, Education. No gotcha's that I am aware of. I will be doing some clean installs at some point. Battling a bad case of the flue at the moment though. It's putting a bit of a damper on my enthusiasm at the moment.

Has anybody done a Clean Install of Education? I'd like to know if Cortana was installed? In the AU, no Cortana, after the upgrade to CU she's there. Not sure if that was a glitch or intended?

Would also like to know if OEM embedded key (namely Windows 8 keys) are still being auto detected on a clean install.

I turn it off and then only turn it back on when a service needs it. The location icon now stays on all the time which is annoying to have on the taskbar.

    Hi there

Clean install with a Windows 8 key using ISO also seems still to work fine (old key from Technet) -glad I kept those !!!!

Not sure how much longer the "Free update" from W7 / W8 / W8. will keep working for though !!!!

    Cheers

Yes I had noticed this. At first I thought something was wrong.

I'm only seeing that on my UEFI Laptop. No extra entries on either of my Legacy BIOS Desktop PC's.
