LOL, I just finished the 1607/14393.1066 update on Gayle's laptop. Two machines and three hours of this is enough for me in one day. I can wait. But Thanks for the "heads-up".

I just tested out the Media Creation Tool. Successfully created a EN-US multiarch ISO. I backed up all temp files used by the tool, before pressing exit.

I then started a reimaging journey from the installx64.esd file found in C:\ESD\ folder.

I used DISM to accomplish this.

Now I have a Windows 10 Pro x64 ISO (v10.0.15063.0) that supports servicing.

What the heck do I mean by servicing? ...simply put it's just a windows setup media that has a install.wim instead of install.esd file and because of this I can easily use the setup image for any kind of recovery tasks and even upgrade the ISO edition with cumulative updates etc... That is the only difference.

Next up I will try to see if this ISO actually works, by using it to install a VM.

Finally I will upgrade the whole ISO with the latest Cumulative Update, bringing the whole media to 10.0.15063.138

But darn, DISM is slow compared to the open source ImageX tool that supports multiple threads

Well I went ahead and waited until yesterday, all Windows Update did was a Cumulative KB4015217 with other stuff, and then after the reboot I got this:

I am still on version 1607 14393.1066

It's a staggered release, only Microsoft knows who gets it and when.

Waiting for it to drop or just running the Media Creation Tool, Upgrade Now option, is essentially the same thing. The MCT will only be updated if a major bug is found and needs to be fixed. Otherwise, you'll just get a cumulative update to bring you up to the current build number.

I think the best thing is to try not to use the pc if you've got limited time on your hands until the update drops if planning to get it via windows update (my preferred approach/method). That's the only problem with MS rolling it out over time - you never know when it's going to hit!

Again we are on the same page. :)

I'm very tempted to manually install the updates when I have the time and our network is not busy just so I don't have to worry about it clogging up the internet connection or occupying my computer for hours whenever it feels like dropping.
