Keep in Mind, there is always Linux and it is improving. Ubuntu I call the most novice friendly and works on most hardware. Once, you get everything setup like you want, you don't have to use the command line or sudo that much unless your tinker like me.
Ah.. no thanks.. I'm in a Windows forum to use/discuss Windows.. not Linux.

But in my example, the updates for 8.0 will indeed end in 2016. I would also suggest that updates for a certain build of Windows 10 would cease at some point as well, since the next build would be the update. No?
    :)
Your guess is as good as mine. Your asking a question that has no answer, not yet anyway.

So I can run all my Microsoft software like office in Linux? And all my games like flight simulator etc? And all my steam games? I don't think so Tim. I run Linux on my Pi, but can't see switching to it on my other PC's and still do what I do now in Windows. It just isn't going to happen, IMHO.

While some software can run in Wine.. it's not all of it and not complete enough for me. at least.

Some Microsoft Apps/extra features could show up as pay for through the Windows Store I guess? If they did that it would be optional, you decide if you want it that bad or not. It would get lots of moans and groans though. I'm not sure they'd want the bad press that would come with it.

You totally misunderstood my point. I meant even though I use Linux as well as Windows 7 and you also use a Mac. I was just saying if Microsoft get really bad charging to often or goes to subscription base (I am not saying Microsoft will), there is always Linux. I am aware some of the Microsoft stuff won't work on Linux even with wine. You can shop, pay bills, browser the web and you can use software very similar to Microsoft word. Did you know Microsoft Office now works again with a Mac from what I read?

Also, I am not the only person that brings up Linux. There are other posters that do as well. I think Microsoft windows 10 is more like Ubuntu. They have apps list in the start menu. They also have a search box, that can search your computer and the web. They even have solitaire games. Windows 10 updates are going to be like Linux be updated often but the difference it forced on windows but not on Linux (depending on your distro).

I use all three. They all have their pluses and minuses. And I know Lee is being somewhat facetious because Linux is more of an OS than any of the others. OS X is layered on top of Berkeley Linux. Office in OS X has worked for a long time already, Where Windows can't be replaced is gaming and Linux can't do that or Office (OpenOffice is not a good interoperable replacement for MS Office).
