Is W10 going to be Microsofts last OS, or simply the last OS called 'Windows' ? There is a big difference in the two.

It would be unrealistic to expect any OS to be infinitely expandable and updateable if only because there will be hardware changes and new technology coming on the scene in years to come that would require a total rethink in the way things are done. A good analogy would be the old analogue TV system and how that was expanded and built upon, year upon year, decade on decade... colour, text services NICAM sound and so on but eventually new technology appears and totally new systems must be devised. Customer expectation drives that forward as well. In todays digital world that change happens much much faster.

So yes, W10 may well be the last 'Windows', but whats MS going to do then ? Sit back and let others develop its successor.

I'd not bet against many of us here today, trialling Windows successor (from MS) in a couple of years time.

No, Windows 10 will be an "evolving" OS, it will get regular (maybe as much as once per month, maybe once per quarter) "upgrades" which add new features. These upgrades can be delayed in Windows Update for up to one upgrade cycle by clicking the box that says "Delay Upgrades". However, they will eventually be applied.

MS has stated that updates will be released as they are made. Patch Tuesday as far as Windows 10 goes is just another day.

Updates, not Upgrades. Updates are security patches, and compatibility fixes, and that sort of thing. Upgrades are adding new features. And those will be released less frequently.

What information?? What do you want MS to say?? The article you quoted is junk.
I tend to disagree about Steve Forbes pushing junk articles having read a number of them on other subjects as well as on MS related. The best source for information you will find as a rule would be the Windows blog where all the MS news eminates from to begin with. It's whatever they want you to know for the moment that gets published there.

They just killed MSE AV support for it today. XP is dead people, it's rotting and the maggots are eating it's kernel,, throw it in a hole and burn it, will ya?
