Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10166

    Category: Insider
    Last Updated: 13 Jul 2015 at 15:19

Update 7/13: We’re only a couple of weeks away now from our public release of Windows 10, and we’re preparing for the world to begin the upgrade process. Windows Insiders have been the first to see our work on Windows 10 at every stage. Now you will also be the first to get a build flighted to you using the channels that we’ll use for targeting and deploying to PCs for our staged rollout.

We’re suspending the availability of Windows 10 builds briefly while we prepare for that, and the next build that we flight to you will be delivered using the production channels. Starting tomorrow, we will also not be delivering any additional ISOs at this point as we really need Insiders to be using, stressing, and validating our distribution and upgrade processes. We’ll make ISOs available again in the future, but for now we ask you to upgrade your current build via Windows Update once the next build is released.

Specifically, this means that in the next 24hrs:

    • Builds 10162 and 10166 will no longer be offered over Windows Update, and whatever build you’re on will show as “up to date” if you check for new builds.
    • ISOs for build 10162 will be taken down from the Home page - Windows Insider Program site and prerelease keys will no longer activate builds.

Once we have a new build available we’ll let you know through here with a blog post, Insider Hub, and on Twitter.

We’re very close to our public release and we’re working very hard to get everything just right. Please continue to send us problem reports using the Windows Feedback app for any problems that you encounter.

    Thanks,
    g

Hi everyone, we have a new build for PCs we’re releasing today to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring – Build 10166. Just like the 3 builds we released last week, this build is all about bug fixing and fit-and-finish. Be sure to keep using the Windows Feedback app to send us feedback on any problems you’re hitting to help us make sure Windows 10 is awesome when we release it on July 29th!

We also have something for you to try out if you live in the Seattle area. With Windows 10, we are giving people the ability to purchase paid Wi-Fi through the Windows Store via the Microsoft Wi-Fi app. You will know when you can purchase Wi-Fi when you see “Buy Wi-Fi from Windows Store” in your list of networks when clicking on the network icon on the lower right in the Taskbar. The Microsoft Wi-Fi app provides the choice to pay with a Credit or Debit Card, a Microsoft Gift Card, PayPal, or Wireless Carrier Billing, and it helps keep your information secure since it uses the Windows Store payment system. Completing the purchase is simple as there is no need to enter additional personal or payment information if you’ve already registered in Windows Store. Right now, we’re testing this experience out in Seattle but it’ll soon open up to the rest of the U.S.

We also have a corresponding Windows 10 SDK preview release with this build. The Building Apps for Windows blog will go into details on the change log. As always, you can download the latest Windows SDK and mobile emulator from the Windows 10 Developer Tools page.

For those of you on older builds – now is definitely the time to upgrade to the most current build. Grab 10166 from Windows Update today or build 10162 ISOs from the Windows Insider Program website. Thank you to all of our Windows Insiders who have given us terrific feedback and helped us shape Windows 10. We’re getting close to release now and the whole team here is working hard and incredibly excited!

    Thanks,
    g

    Another new build! Yeepeeeeeeeee!

Edit: I know this doesn't belong in this thread, but since it is OS-related, why not? Apple's public beta of OS X El Capitan arrives today.

So if you are a lucky individual with access to a Mac, you could technically be downloading both the newest build of Windows and the public beta of OS X El Capitan. Busy time today!

    Downloading. So far I've gone from Windows 7 to 10074 > 10122 > 10130 > 10158 > 10159 > 10162 and now 10166. Fast Ring finally is the Fast Ring.
