Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10166 Insider
-
I had some tiles with no icons show up after upgrading to 10158 I think? It was one of the last couple of builds. I just unpinned them from the Start Menu and repined them. Hasn't happened again since. They were shortcuts to my documents, pictures, videos etc.
Arrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhh! Now my Settings icon has gone on the blink! Sheesh! Such a small niggle, but oh, so, irritating!

Here's an ad I think is especially good:
Lots of options there! :)

It's probably you used your MSA with Insider Preview registered!
Thought it might be that.

Well that's great, an ad that says they are giving away something for free that is already free for almost anybody who has got a valid license of Windows? That's how you sell your stuff

No, you got it all wrong . . . you'd be surprised at the number of people on this planet who are holding off buying a new PC before July 29 because they think they'll be stuck with Windows 8.1. Seriously, there are some out there who really don't know that even if they buy a PC now that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade.

Downloading. So far I've gone from Windows 7 to 10074 > 10122 > 10130 > 10158 > 10159 > 10162 and now 10166. Fast Ring finally is the Fast Ring.
Yes. Now the name makes sense !

Kind'a like OEMs shooting themselves in the foot, eh Wyn?
On the other hand OEMs' attraction to rid old stock and will probably jack up and justify the price because it's a "new OS". They "Wyn, Wyn" either way.

Anyone knows how to bypass Verisign Certification when install some old applications? M$ is not updating certications on some companies with last few builds I guess.

The thing is though, if you have issues, do you call HP for support or Microsoft? Who is actually doing that free upgrade? HP or Microsoft. I upgraded an OEM version of Windows 7 to Windows 10 and showkey shows the new key as a Windows 10 Pre-Release Retail key. I suspect that is because your not going to be calling the OEM (HP, Dell, etc) for support for Windows 10 if you have issues after doing the free upgrade. You'll be calling Microsoft. The OEM is only going to offer support for the OS the device shipped with.

Not working
I've used every Build up to and including 10162, but 10166 won't finish for me. It gets to 95%, 82% of "configuring settings", and won't go any further. When I restart my PC, it reverts back to 10162.
