Making your win 10 close faster:

WaitToKillAppTimeout - Specify for Shutdown in Windows

    1. Press the win+ R keys to open the Run dialog, type regedit, and click/tap on OK.

    2. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.

    3. In regedit, navigate to the location below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

    4. In the right pane of Desktop, double/click tap on the WaitToKillAppTimeout string value to modify it.
    Take Note:
If you do not have a WaitToKillAppTimeout string value, then right click or press and hold on an empty space in the right pane of Desktop, click/tap on New and String Value, type WaitToKillAppTimeout for the name, and press Enter.

    5. Type in 2000 for how many milliseconds you want to have for the WaitToKillAppTimeout value, and click/tap on OK.

It is recommended to not set a value below 2000 milliseconds (2 seconds).

    6. Then, if you don’t already see the following strings, then you need to create them in the same manner that you created the one above. Right click in open space, and create strings of AutoEndTasks, HungAppTimeout, and WaitToKillServiceTimeout , and set all of their values to 2000.

    7. When finished, close Registry Editor and restart the PC to apply.

    THEN:

Shut Down -Speed Up - Windows 7 Help Forums

Go back to Run/regedit and click on
    HKey_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Control

In the right hand window find WaitToKillService, right click and set value to 2000.
    Close and restart the machine.

i have an extremely fast machine. but with each successive win 10 build, the restart times have gotten slower and slower. so this techn. helps with keeping the restart or shut down times faster.
Thank you for this but, unfortunately, it has not resolved the problem on my system. Here is how my Registry looks like, after applying some of these changes :

After rebooting and shutting down the computer, for several times, I still have the same problem :

    - Almost on each reboot or shut down the "DDE Server Window" and another unspecified program is preventing my computer from proceeding to the selected action. After approx. 2-3 seconds it proceeds, so it restarts or shuts down, respectively.

With "unspecified" program I mean that it does not show me the name of the program. The "DDE Server Window" name shows but the other program's name does not show.

    Anything else I could do?

    I have already reported it.

Sorry for the consecutive post but I felt like posting this question in a new post :

    - Can someone, please, tell me how can I completely uninstall the Mail application from my system and install it again?

The live tile of the Mail app is not live at all. I think it is completely dead on my system. So, I want to re-install the Mail app. How can I do it, please?

The Weather app works fine and its live tile updates each time I open my Start menu.

NOTE: I upgraded to build 10166 from the previous official build, 10162. The previous build was clean-installed from MS official ISO. I had the same issues on the previous build, as well.

    Looks like you're missing HungAppTimeout.

Yes, you are right, I have not set this because I thought that if you set AutoEndTasks, HungAppTimeout is not requiered any more. Should I set this one, too, then? And should I set it in both locations (in the Registry) shown above?

    Thank you.

EDIT: I have set it but I still get the same error.

I thought so too but, I think they work in conjunction with each other. Wouldn't hurt to add it to HKEY_CURRENT_USER only.

Maybe Pass Mark needs updating and it doesn't show accurate values on Windows 10? I'm asking without knowing because I don't use it
Just like most benchmark programs, Passmark should always use same version for comparing results. I'm using v8,0 (build 1027) x64. Found and inserted .ptx files from earlier version and results were pretty different on same machine with only GPU changed in meantime.

Well, adding HungAppTimeout to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop seems to have fixed this issue!!

I have shut down and restarted a few times, both by right-clicking the Win icon and selecting, then by selecting the action from my Start menu, and finally by pressing Crtl-Alt-Delete and selecting from there. In all situations no program is preventing my computer from shutting down/restarting anymore, neither any message appears! I sincerely hope it will remain this way!

Edwin, can you please tell me where in the Event Viewer can I see how much time it takes my PC to shut down?

I remember reading about this once but I don't recall how to do it anymore...

    Because here's what I get:

Name:	1.png
Views:	244
Size:	14.1 KB
ID:	23867

This is of course in a dual boot system with Win 7 and it contains the required time to press F11 and select the Win_10_SSD and also to enter my PIN.

Also, can someone please tell me how can I completely uninstall the Mail app and re-install it again?

    Thanks!
