Triple boot - Win 10 Pro, Win 10 Pro Insider (2) - (and a sprinkling of VMs)

This "Cloud" thing version.....is it fair to compare it, conceptually, not specifically, to this?

No. Windows 10 native, built-in Win32 apps seem to run OK (Device Manager, Disk management and so on). No third party Win32 apps can be run.

Take for instance installing it on a VM; Hyper-V users will have no issues but VMware users cannot install VMware tools because the installer is pure Win32 application. Or media players like Kodi and VLC, both can be installed from Store as UWP apps but their desktop versions cannot be installed.

I'm not sure about that. At least for now Windows 10 Cloud is not a cloud OS, contrary to what the name implies. It is a fully locally installed OS using locally installed software.

Windows 10 Pro IP Build 16299.19 (Branch: RS3 Release)

Chrome OS has also locally installed software, they are just plugins in Chrome Browser. Same thing different tech. Chrome on Windows is closer to an OS than a browser, if you start looking under the hood. ;-)

Cortana is quite talkative, voice guidance thru install. Gave it 3 cores and 4GB of RAM, it's quite happy with it.

Ah - thanks - that is clearer now.

So in the end, it is a souped up Win RT version in effect.

I have to say the only way I see this really being a success is if it is offered free of charge (or at a very low cost) as Windows 10's little brother (and user has option ability to install full Windows 10 if they wish i.e. not locked to Cloud version like RT PCs were).

This could make inroads into other free OS market, Linux, ChromeOS etc.

I could see smaller vendors e.g. selling tablets going for it (rather like Windows 8+Bing) as it would keep costs down for small form devices significantly.

Notice please, the following is my educated guess, what I think. I have no facts to support this:

I believe it could be a success. One clear goal Microsoft in my opinion have with Windows 10 Cloud is to be able to offer an OS to OEMs with very low cost, a barebone "Light" version of Windows 10 to be used as pre-installed OS on low end tablets and notebooks.

It is a fully working OS, available in 32 and 64 bit versions, available as Home or Pro edition. It can be used for anything user needs it, as long as the apps required are UWP apps. Monitoring its resource usage it is quite clear it requires less resources than a full Windows 10.

I believe that Windows 10 Starter will die and be replaced with Windows 10 Cloud.

Don't suppose there's a 32-bit version somewhere? My 2007 laptop is struggling with the latest IP 15063. Has single core CPU and 2 gig ram

Can't remember right now but I think there was an option what to install at one of first steps.

Download looks like 64-bit, the one I've found, so looks like I'm scuppered for now.
