Shame it doesn't play direct from the 360 disk, a 10GB download would take me 2 days

I have quite a large collection, had the 360 from day one and also get the free games each month, so with games becoming compatible with the One, its getting hard to say no to getting it
Technically, it doesn't download the disc. It just downloads a patch and then copies the files it needs from the disc. It's the same method when you pop in an X1 disc, even though a patch may be 500mb-2GB, it downloads it in the background while its installing the disc. If I recall, I swear Phil mentioned the patch is so small for the 360 game compatibility that as long as there is some type of internet connection, it will install without any hitches.

That is actually entirely possible. I suppose we could test this by giving the X1 primary thread processing on a router and see how much is actually being transferred. This makes more sense because the 360 image is basically getting something from XBL to the header of the 360 image that is allowing it to be 'repackaged' in a sense and then read through the 360 emulator. Intriguing idea....and worth testing.

that sounds very good if its just downloading patches

now just need 100% backward compatibility then no need for the 360

That's where the problem lies my friend. On one side, we have Phil and like all game developers in our corner with just giving us features at no additional cost. On the other side, you have money hungry publishers that have the ultimate yay or nay on backwards compatibility because they are gate keepers (games wouldn't be released without publishers). This will lead into two routes with the greedy ones, either publishers just ultimately decline BC on their games or (which I kind of hope happens) they will be forced to remaster older games so they can make a profit - I don't mind paying for a remaster when its actually remastered and has all DLC, etc. Unfortunately I don't see 100% BC ever happening, there's a few publishers out there that don't exist anymore and I have no idea how the DRM works when a company defuncts if its not acquired through purchase.

agree on the 100% BC, more wishful thinking on my part

If they could get this right, I would expect it to make a huge uptake for the One

Currently the 360 is a great machine and still has lots of life left in it, MS need a big incentive to get people to upgrade, old games working on it would do it, imo

Much agreed, although they need to really just go after the big titles - IMO no one is really going to care if a Dora the explorer is BC.

True, but if its a full BC emulator on the One, be nice if it worked for everything, but getting the big titles working would be great

Streaming from Windows 10 devices to the One would be even better. My PC piddles all over the One for gaming capabilities.

They have a miracast type system already in testing, but that's not what you are looking for I presume.

I am curious, what would be the benefit(s) to stream PC games through the Xbox one?
