Microsoft locks Ryzen and Kaby Lake users out of updates on Windows 7

I just don't get the beef..
- Microsoft are GIVING YOU WINDOWS 10 for free..!!

- the most advanced and amazing operating system on the planet - FOR FREE..!!

- if you were to drive your Mini into a garage and a mechanic opened the bonnet to find that you'd installed a Rolls Royce engine in it..
- well, a sharp intake of breath isn't all you're gonna hear..

I wonder how many of those complaining have actually upgraded to one of those unsupported CPU's? I'm thinking its not to many. For most its more than just a CPU swap, its a new motherboard, CPU, maybe new RAM etc. Then cheap out on your OS?

Well, not exactly but close enough (even for hand grenade). It's free upgrade from a system that had to be payed. Swap is free but OS isn't.

With all the loop holes its pretty dame close to free, lol.

I'll venture a guess that some don't know that you just can't plug a Ryzen into an existing motherboard that uses say an, A10/A8, processor. I really wonder how many have done a processor upgrade at all. From personal experience you have to have a new process that fits into the same socket to begin with and then the issue is does the motherboard support that new processor.

It's more complex than some think.

Small ones at best. All ya needed was a licensed copy of Win7/8.1 and you could get it.

Not many I'd say and there was also a scare when Skylake was announced and what happened ? According to those rumors W7 shouldn't have worked at all, not only some updates.

All you need now is a product code (that's not blacklisted). And some are reusing the same code on multiple PC's. Anyway, that's for another discussion. It's a lot easier to do the free upgrade now that you don't actually have to upgrade first, lol.

In a sane world, this should cause a user backlash/boycott against W10 (just like W8) forcing MS to release W11.

if peeps paid attention and microsoft stays true to their word we will be on 10 forever and just get new releases/builds of 10.

Hi there

with more complex stuff (AI design / encryption methodology, theoretical physics etc) we are GOING sooner or later to need another step up in computing power -- and you can't just keep adding more "co-processors" -- the next upgrade is going to eventually need a 128 bit OS and memory to go with it.

Once you get more than several co-processors operating the overhead rises rapidly -- for example an 8 way co-processor isn't as powerful as 8 X a single processor but about 6.5 times - and the overhead increases rapidly after that.

W10 will eventually be as obsolete as Windows 3.1 -- not Ms's fault but just the nature of us Humans getting ever more sophisticated with what we want to do with computers.
