    One more thing:

If the have pro retail Window 7 or 8.1 retail keys, and seriously want an OS that supports the new hardware....
All the need to do is......

Install Win10, and give the Pro key in when asked during the install, it still works, at least did for me a short time ago.
No tricks or gimmicks used, like saying I need ease of access stuff or any other lying crap. I just gave the Pro key in during installation and I was activated.
1 That would be both to easy and make to much sense.
2 And it would make people use that '''hated''' MS WIn10.

One more thought on this topic. We have to also factor in the motherboard makers and the chip-sets that are involved. The new Ryzen processor from AMD is going to need a new socket type, AM4, and I bet they aren't going to be supporting Windows 7 or 8.1 either. I know I had an older HP desktop and they stopped support for the chip set drivers so it wouldn't work with Win 8. Well, it would but when you did a full shutdown it would fail when you went to restart it.

That's just one more issue to keep in mind. This isn't just an MS issue. Far from it.

Good point. They cant support everything forever. This just comes along with how fast new CPUs and other tech tends to come out now. Before it didnt move as fast as it does now so it gets harder to keep supporting older OSs and hardware.

It's easy for people to say, "oh just use a new OS and get over it already". But I am pretty sure some companies out there that maybe spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to upgrade products to run on Windows 8.1 from XP and implemented that OS now all of a sudden being told, to go ahead and spend several hundreds of thousands again, aren't going to be jumping up and down in excitement over this.

Egg-zactly, OS needs to support all the new features of new technology at kernel level, it's not just a question of proper drivers. Can't see myself upgrading and than not being able to use new HW to it's fullest. Even W10 will need some changes to get everything out of Ryzen for instance, it's still not optimized 100% let alone W7 that would need even more changes.

No.. wrong. In the case of the Intel chips they would come with new PCs that business would purchase pre-built with Win10 installed. I highly doubt that any business would perform a processor upgrade. As for the AMD Ryzen.. again business will not likely perform an upgrade to existing hardware and if they did they would know enough to use WIn10 on it. In addition the Ryzen requires a different socket, AM4, and you can't just upgrade existing hardware so the OS isn't an issue really. You would need a copy of a new OS to run on it.

Your business analogy is totally wrong and as for individuals. The same applies. Most that upgrade should be well aware that the new processors need Win10 and have to get it. I for one wouldn't put anything but Win10 on a PC with that kind of processor on it. It would be like putting cheap gas in a performance car,

Those same companies will just keep on going with current hardware and software. This is only an issue if your currently Running Windows 7 "and" decide to upgrade your hardware to one of the unsupported CPU's. They just won't do it. Even if they did upgrade they would just pick hardware that's still compatible with Windows 7. From what I've seen, for a lot of companies, hardware only gets upgraded/replaced when the magic blue smoke comes out. And even then, they don't buy the latest and greatest, they buy what is needed to do the job and that's it.

I don't get how this is perceived as Microsoft forcing us to do something? This is a non issue for most already running Windows 7 on their current hardware. It's supported. It's only an issue if you decide to buy new hardware and buy one of those CPU's that's not supported. Then you have a decision to make. Would you rather they didn't say anything and you only found out after setting your system up?

Also how many of those complaining did or were going to go out and buy the latest and greatest CPU and put Windows 7 on it? I'm thinking its not a lot. A lot of those complaining likely have no intention of buying those CPU's anyway. Right now I don't think this is as big an issue as its made out to be. IMHO that is. The closer we get to seven's end of life it will impact some. The reality is your just delaying the inevitable. Sooner or later your going to have to make the do I upgrade my OS decision anyway.

    Hi there

I can't understand all these people who say Ms should keep supporting newer hardware on older OS'es -- W7 will eventually be as obsolete as XP -- but you can run it until the end of the Universe if you want to in a VM.

Personally I can't see the point of running legacy stuff on very fast new hardware unless it's in a VM which would work BETTER and with more security than the original OS on older hardware.

    Cheers

Well, yes, manufacturers of HW can't just keep on making same thing all over, we'd never get past Intel 4004 than, New HW needs new OS and SW otherwise would be useless to innovate.
