Like the childish images from other posts. Nearly made me smile.. but failed.
Not downloading. But the machine was asleep for more than 12 hours so it may feel sluggish - like me. Actually, I just checked and I was reset to the slow ring. Now it's downloading.
Forgot to reset to ESD install mode. So following Kari's instructions did a disk cleanup (2.53 GB installation files) and set UUPoff.
Now I'll see if I I get an inistall.esd. Also I have used GreatisRegrun Suite (the developer is great - I've worked with Dmitri for nearly a decade) and was actually able to see and turn off the the Update Orchestrator Service which was set to go.
===================
I can say that if I had not taken action the UUP update was set to go. Don't know whether it was because I turned off the Orchestrator service but the power options showed "update and restart" and simply "restart" which even if not intended was a great improvement if perhaps a "forced update" can be avoided"
Double check to see that "SupportsUUP" is "0". yes ok. Update orchestrator service is back on (thanks Dmitri$). It's downloading 15048. Sure nice to have a bit of control over this stuff.
Anyway just found a problem using Vivaldi. On a non preview laptop now and when I was posting in Vivaldi (Chrome) it froze. Ended all the browser's running processors in task manager and it still wouldn't open again. Typical of Google. So the three key to task manager and log out. I'll see what happens.
Logging back in without rebooting. So far a black background and desktop icons showing. I can bring up the task bar but only by Cortana's search bar. Windows icon on left and the notification icon on right showing.
Will try restarting Windows explorer.
Hmm, task manager is blank. Win icon on left and notification icon on right are dead . Right click notification icon shows the context menu but nothing happens. Window icon totally dead. No option but three key to sigh out then use power button to restart.
First time this has happened for me.
