Cliff, Swarfega and all....
If possible, always try to get a quick look at the release notes first. Either on the Hub or the Blog, or posted here (usually by Shawn). Scan thru the known issues. You may be able to save yourself some headaches if you have a heads-up that may pertain to you. It's not always possible to do, but it can forewarn and make things a little smoother. TC
This is actually the first time ever I've experienced problems with installing an insider build.

I do,
After I have had a problem, which is very, very rare:)

@Peggsie, look here to get Control Panel back in start menu Win+X Menu - Show Control Panel or Settings in Windows 10
Programs & Features is now apps and features. That's been like that for last several builds. They (MS) split it out.

That's because you're very, very good! A little luck, maybe....but good!

Luck, and like Kari, I prefer to either use Win10 defaults, or even give more permissions so I have the best user experience possible.

Machine #1 is now up and running 15042 (as verified by winver, no watermark here either).I used Kari's UUP to ISO tutorial on Machine #2 and it seemed to work. Am writing the iso to a USB stick now. If this works, that would prove to me that MS has disabled the UUP off registry hack.
Note: I DID verify before the download started that UUP was turned OFF on both machines.
I'm a little late to the party, SLWelch, but I did the same as you. Because I was having trouble with sound on my computer, I turned off UUP so I could get install.esd. It wasn't there! So, if you're bonkers, so am I. And yes, even with UUP turned off, the update downloaded and installed perfectly; very quick installation.
