I always did uup off, then clean disk esp windows install files and rebooted and that took care of it without disconnecting it from the network

You may of course do exactly as you want to. Your PC, your Windows, your rules. I am old school and have learned that in computing anything is possible, that logical and / or theoretical outcome is not always what really happens,

This question and answer to it, taken from this context (computing / Windows upgrade) to the world of driving:

Question: Why safety belt? I've never had an accident.

Answer: You don't use safety belt only when you know for sure you will have an accident. You use it to protect you in case there will be an accident.

Only as a precaution, to avoid any chance it's gonna take off again downloading before you get everything reset and ready. I've done it both ways. It's not totally mandatory, but it's a safeguard. Quick step, so no time lost. That's all. Might be other reasons. Not sure, but doesn't hurt anything.

Oh, NOTE: Disconnect from network when you have both Ethernet and WiFi would mean turning off the router. Just disabling Ethernet or pulling the cable won't do. It'll just fall back to the WiFi. That's been my experience.

I just unplug Ethernet cable and disconnect WiFi from here:

Thanks for this - I'm giving this a shot to try to fix my issue with saving a file. It has actually been happening for a while, just didn't notice it.

I first noticed it with Chrome, when trying to save a file, but when I used Firefox and Free Download Manager took over, it had no issues saving a file.

Now, anything that I use to save a file (notepad, Firefox, etc.) that doesn't use FDM causes the app to crash.

IOW, it's been happening at least since build 15014.

The only way I could save the batch file you linked was to copy the commands, go to Windows Explorer, create a new text file, then edit it with the commands and renaming it to a .bat file.

If this doesn't work, then I'm definitely going to have to re-install. And if that is the case, then all the time I just spent moving the VHDs to the main SSD (was running out of space on the smaller SSD) is moot, as I'll have to move them all back again, as the main SSD is all one big partition.

I might have an old backup lying around, but I'm afraid that the issue may come back, and my base system is not that hard to reinstall anymore, seeing as I've not installed all the games on it that i Had before....

    We'll see. Wish me luck.
