Anybody getting ccc has stopped working messages? ccc being Catalyst Control Center for those that don't know. And anybody using DisplayLink with a USB connected monitor?
Gee, Alpha, I haven't gotten those messages since 10130; however, the video probs didn't stop in 10130; when trying to watch online content, buffering happened around every three seconds. Now I can watch videos! Yay.

OK. Do as you may, but quite honestly don't understand why you would use any machine that is malfunctioning. It would be liken to a car that starts but doesn't go anywhere due to a broken transmission. I can understand performing the upgrade method verses fresh install, but it didn't work.

    Have you performed sfc /scannow?
To be quite honest, I had no idea that everyone else had the alphabet but me. I thought it was a glitch in one of the releases and it would be fixed ...

Yes, I have run the system file checker. No issues there.

Not sure if I am on the same page as you, but when you show all apps and click on any letter, the alphabet will show up. I don't know how to make it stay because the next Win key will turn it off.

I’ll tell you what—since this is such an important discussion, I will put it to rest by saying what is true about them and it’s this: An app or a program is whatever the h--- you choose to call them. It’s like that to most things.

    Heya

Same problem here. There was an update of the amd drivers this morning on my WU and right after that the errors and reporting started for me. I would have swore I had them blocked as I had used a reg hack that allowed me to stop some driver updates from auto install. But once(and every time) WU updates to their dang engineering sample CCC goes crazy and stops working and literally deletes itself from anywhere. I end up each time using amd driver 15.5 beta and install it and everything is ok until the update hits. Wish we had a choice on what updates we want.

Go to the system screen, (Windows logo key and the pause/break key). Then go to Advanced system settings > Hardware tab > Device installation settings > select No let me chose and Never install driver software from Windows update. This is for Windows 8.1 but I think its the same in Window 10.

10130 was the last build I tried on my laptop. It has switchable graphics. AMD Radeon HD 7660G and 7600M. For me I think ccc crashes when it switches GPU's. Web videos usually. Everything keeps working but I get endless ccc has stopped working messages until I reboot. I also have a USB 3 monitor that uses DisplayLink. In Windows 10 it just won't work correctly. It won't let me change the screen resolution for the external monitor to the correct setting. All I get is "settings could not be saved". The external display will not work at all unless set to its native resolution. Those two issues are unrelated to each other but combined make me hesitant to run Windows 10 on my laptop.

Very interesting discovery, thank you! I have applied it. The results are mixed : there is not blurriness anymore in all those Windows components but the "File Computer View" menus in File Explorer, for example, display disproportionately minuscule compared to the Title bar and the content. Also, with these setting text overlaps in some programs, for example the Aquasuite. Also, this setting does not affect the Start Menu. Everything stays tiny in there.

The default on my system, after returning everything to their defaults so "Zoom" = 100%, was F4 and not F1. After setting everything *Font related in the registry to ED and rebooting the result is that everything in the "Change only the text size" menu is set to "14". I have also set the first byte to F1. That gives size "11", in my system.

What is the value, the HEX number, for the size to become "12", please? I'd like to try it, even though I think I will return to the 125% Global Zoom, or whatever they call it. It is the only setting that applies " global magnification" without affecting the applications that interest me.

Note: the sizes are set from the "Change only the text size". I've set everything back to "9", checked the Registry and that first byte is set to F4, the default on my system. So, I assume that there's no need to change any first byte. It can be set directly from that menu.

    Thanks anyway.
Yes, you don't need to hack the registry unless you change the system-wide zoom to something other than 100%. I like mine at 125%, plus tweaking individual font sizes.

Well you mentioned using a USB 3 Drive so I thought why not an eSata. It works great on an external drive. Strange that it would not recognize the new one I have.
Oh! Yeah, most external drives now come as USB 3 and this computer has USB 3. I don't even know why I mentioned that, but if it helped ya, I'm glad I did.

It's somewhat like a context menu, so it'll never stay, although it would be a good idea if it could be configured to.

This idea came from the phone.
