if someone is dedicated to believe what they want to believe, whether it is right or wrong, you can't convince them otherwise, no matter how much logic or common sense you give them. it's all good, others get and agree with what you are saying.
    Thanks for that...

    i don't see a 4.2.2 beta release, only a 4.2.0 beta, and a 4.2.1 latest stable version.
It's there right under the download button.

    Okay, my 2-cents:
I think that, by the looks of this conversation, it is quite apparent, the need for distinguishing between the two is imperative. Therefore, I propose that we here, in the TenForums, have a contest, and name the two, and henceforth we shall all use our adopted naming convention when referring to either of them!

Don't those Start Screen thingamajigs already have names? An icons so you know what they are?

I refer to them as Programs and Modern Apps. Use those two terms in the same statement/post and most people know which is which. Anybody my age anyway.

In Windows 8.1 you go to Programs and features for one, and Search and Apps, for the other. Likely to change in Windows 10 though, control panel will be MIA eventually.

Just remember, Impressive will keep going after release... So it's likely that the impressive branch build number will be higher than the RTM even at RTM time.

Well, this is interesting...build 10500 has been spotted. Looks like it may be Windows “Threshold R2” build lab.
