they are alllllllll written in computer language, or they wouldn't work on a computer. that is a useless point. the point before you jumped in to make a useless point, was that they said that there was NO difference between an app and a program. and as i said, while they do overlap a lot, there is technically a difference, which is backup by there definitions.
What difference?? Both can run on a computer or a device(Tablet Phone) and both contain programs so they are exactly the same when you get down to it.

But in the end they're all written in a computer language and thus a program. :)
Yes, of course, so what? 'App' means a certain KIND of a program. Everything is a program. Windows is a program. The firmware in your computer/device is a program. It is useful and meaningful to make distinctions among KINDS of programs. You are being a funny bunny.

Keep in mind from my point of view as a programmer everything is a program/software and it doesn't matter to me if it's a "Program",, "App" or "Application". To me .. it's all code.

the difference by definition is that an app or application works with or for the intervention of a human or os. where there is NO human or os intervention when your bios program is working. it's clearly in the definition. i can't make it any simpler than that...

final point, is that there are a lot of people who say, to me this word means this or that, which is nowhere near the actual definition. but whether they say that or not, the definition of a word is still the definition. it doesn't change because someone says, "well, to me..."

Yes,, Systems software vs Application software.. I've written both in my time., and in some cases application software will call system software.

No offence but I am enjoying this semantic debate :).

Let's try to stir the pot a bit more: Download and install Excel Mobile Preview App, PowerPoint Mobile Preview App or Word Mobile Preview App on your Windows 10 computer. All of them even have the word Mobile in their names. All of them are standard Windows Store Apps.

Try them, use them. On Windows 10 PC they are full-fledged desktop applications / programs, capable to do almost anything and everything their Office Suite counterparts can do (of course there are certain limitations, these apps are free!).

Question?? Have you actually written any software or are you using a dictionary for these terms??

System software and that can be called by Application software. For example a C++ program would have to call API's to generate a GUI.
