"Apps" are not a problem but Store is, there's not much useful there (yet), Some built in Apps like weather, news etc. depend on internet to update and that may slow them down, Others like pictures, music etc are pretty basic and there are much better free replacements. Once those Apps get to work at different platforms and devices (as promised by MS). their usefulness may increase.

So, I don't know, probably everyone else in the whole world knows this, but me....
I would click Start>All Apps and then have to scroll around to get to the program I needed. Scrolling to R for Reflect or P for Publisher or W for Word was a pain. I thought, hey - why can't I just press a letter on the keyboard after selecting All Apps, and it should take me to the programs (or apps) that begin with that letter? Why do I have to scroll? Now, keep in mind that the alphabet in my start menu disappeared several versions ago...

So, by chance, I pressed WinKey + P and I got all my P programs, P apps, P folders and P photos.

I am really slow I guess....
    Are you on build 10162?

Press 0-9 or any letter for alphabet.

    Attachment 23267

    WinKey/P gets me Project.

    1) I see the same after having tried builds 10158, 10159 and 10162 (all of them clean installed). Apart from the mysterious Program Manager (at least, I don't know what it is), I usually also spot DDE Server Window preventing my system from being shut down or restarted. They've improved the speed of those tasks a little in spite of it, though.

    2) I would have to try it, which brings me to...

    3) I believe it's working properly on my end. I'm not at my computer now, so I'll make sure to check out later. However, a bug I've noticed on and off is that after changing the general zoom of the system with a custom one (e.g. 115%), we can't change the size of different elements such as Title bars, icons, etc, because they are greyed out. I believe it's back in 10162.

Apart from this, I've noticed a rather peculiar bug with this build (remember, clean install). I have the time format set at 24 hours. Ok, once I'm already with the system on and I've signed in to my Microsoft account, if I lock the screen I can see the time formatted correctly (24 hours). On the other hand, however, when I boot into Windows for the first time, I restart it, or if I sign out and then in back again, in all those cases when I reach the Lock Screen, the time is formatted in the 12-hour setting.

I've already submitted all those bugs.

    Cheers!
    Hello

IF you've had the chance to observe / reproduce any of those bugs, please report back here. :)

I have also spotted the DDE Server Window on shutdown or restart but it occurred once or twice so I didn't mention it. Today another issue re-appeared (this gets fixed with a reboot) :

I am using the latest hotfix of the NVIDIA drivers. Also, sometimes it shows me that there are New Notifications in the task bar, but when I open the Action Center there's nothing there.

All of these will get reported.

I find these Basic Apps suite my needs pretty well. Now in Win10 we can adjust the window size developers will concentrate on apps hopefully, being their software will run much more secure than in a win32 environment, meaning happier users. it's just some that were downloaded with wrappers so the dev could earn a few $$$ for his "Free" product might cost then(only fair).

Didn't pay too much attention to Apps lately but now I checked Movies&TV and it doesn't look bad. Made a collection of movies I have on one of HDDs and it took a while to register them all with the App. They are in few different formats but it picked them all. Player does not have many options and no titles capability. Calendar picked up some results from a benchmark program (OCCT) no idea why. Still have to check out others.

Builds 10162, 10159, 10158 and other leaked versions all have a few severe issues with UAC set to "Do not dim my desktop" causing Modern applications to stop responding after those applications attempt to show a UAC dialog (e.g. the Settings app when clicking "change product key").

You can workaround the issue by terminating the consent.exe process, resetting UAC to default or disabling UAC entirely.

Hope it helps, It doesn't seem to be getting fixed despite very reproducible feedback

I don't think they are ever going to "fix" it, to MS it's a safety feature and is carried on since W8. Set to next to Never Notify is not a big bother for Apps users and for desktop only users can be lowered down to never notify.

    Agreed.

Every Window looking the same regardless of whether it's active or not is ridiculous.
It's in the same league as the idiotic disembodied menu bar on Macs (and GNOME3).

I use real "Programs" on my PC, not "Apps".
Why would anyone want to use phone/tablet "Tinkertoy" Apps on a desktop PC?
Because they do what I want them to do and show me what I want to see. I use the Weather app every day. Simple, easy to use, no need for a program to be installed to do the same thing. I also use Slacker Radio, again easy to use. Why do it the hard way with an IE plugin or desktop program. Call them tinkertoy if you want but they work and have uses for some of us. No muss no fuss. All depends on what your doing.

I must admit, I've given up trying to make use of Apps. They take too damn long to load!
If I want a quick peek at an image or screenshot, I want to do so immediately in Photo Viewer, not wait for the Photos App to load 'Pictures', OneDrive and all kinds of other destinations first.
I can open my browser, navigate to The Weather Network and check the weather faster than the Weather App can load!
Are you running an SSD? Weather app opens very quick for me. With the live tile I don't even have to open it unless I want a detailed forecast.

Huh? So you're saying that going to a brick and morter store, and buying a boxed copy of an application gives you the ability to be sure it does everything you want it to do? That makes no sense.
You're reading things into my statement that just are not there.
