By truncated, I don't mean that I can't see everything in it . . . mine has been cut off at the bottom, but still shows the number of items in the folder. I have install.esd highlighted so you can see it, and also, you should see how many items beginning with "i" are there too.

Right click Start>Control Panel>File Explorer Options: See screenshot below to be sure you actually have "show hidden folders" active.

Hope this will help you find it.
I think you almost hit the nail on the head! I clicked on the "install" button that shows up after the update is downloaded. I think this will actually cause this folder to expand and include all of the 215 that you are referring.

    Will update in a bit.

I think you finally hit it on the head, Roger! Windows 10 Build 10162 has to be installed before it'll show you the install.esd. There is a way to get it before installation gets too far, but I'd rather let Windows 10 upgrade so I can check it out awhile before going for the clean install. Besides, I'd probably miss the ideal place to grab install.esd anyway!

Well just installed 10162 over 10130 on my laptop. Seems smoother and more polished. Bugs seems to have been solved such as trackpad scrolling and auto hide on the taskbar, both of which decided when they would work or not in 10130. Also MS Edge seems to have fully replaced Project Spartan. Also a 'windows.old' folder has been created in my main HD. Presumably new builds see older ones as an older version of Windows?

Did you already upgrade, then start looking for the ESD?

I've never had to use it, but I think windows.old is a safety measure.

Keep reading, Kari, and maybe you'll be able to help Roger get the ESD before it's too late. I've never tried your way.

I have it even after disk cleanup.
windows.old is good only for finding personal files, if they are saved to another place, or if you are like me and keep them away from boot disk than you can get rid of it as soon as practical, can save a lot of space.

I think I figured out the problem. I simply had to click the install button that presents itself when the newest build is fully downloaded. I uploaded my post without clicking that install button and so was presented with an incomplete list of files in the Sources folder.

Computer is preparing for the upgrade as I write this, so we shall see if install.esd is indeed there. Most likely it is.

UPDATE: Its there. Sorry for the trouble folks!

    Windows 10 Home/10 Pro x 3/Windows 10 Insider Preview ?

Still no joy here for the update to 10162 I even reset the PC keeping nothing. I am going to do a clean install of 10130 & see if I have better luck.
