So, if I object to UUP initializing things for five hours, I'm a wimp eh? If I want to get to testing the meat of the OS, rather than a delivery system that doesn't work, that makes me a wimp?
C'mon, Fafhrd, I wouldn't expect name calling from you.
I'm sorry you feel offended by the use of "wimpy Insiders" It wasn't directed personally at anyone. Your passion certainly isn't wimpy, so how can you expect me to honestly believe you felt it directed to you?
Skip a build or 3 or 4, if they don't work out - I do, and I still use the builds that were working, and no doubt I still get problems -which get telemagically reported back to the WER analysts, whose databases mine the cause of the problems and go to fix future issues from those root causes.
The UUP is MS's chosen delivery system for Windows as a Service - they may be wrong - your experience with it tells you so, but some others are actually reporting getting a good experience.
Neither you nor I have that pleasure, yet, but I hope there is something better than the 4GB ESD download and long upgrade process, even if it works OK(ish) now.
If we stop using that delivery method on principle, it's as dead in the water as Democracy is, if certain Politicians could have their way. (Now, I am name calling!)
I look forward to seamless upgrades, with nothing more than a painless monthly CU, and a glance at Winver to tell me I've arrived, and a new thread pinned on TF News beginning Announcing... and telling me what I have to look forward to.

The problem is that UUP needs a big test base, and if wimpy Insiders circumvent it, by ESD or WZOR, it ain't being tested! MS will likely disable the ability to use ESD until it gets results.
Everyone is allowed to an opinion but that one is a bit harsh, IMHO. If I can't get a build via UUP I can't test any of the updates and changes. What good does it do MS if I can't get the new build?? Yes, I can wait for a day or so for a new build via UUP but I've reported that UUP is buggy several times and they haven't fixed it yet.

Using the ESD method is a known and I can get the new build fast and start testing without having to jump through hoops to get my hand on it. I did use WZOR to get a previous build due to the issues with UUP and I don't see any issues with that. It's a valid way to get caught up with insider builds.

IMO, there's no need to criticize how each member tests and I bet that MS is getting lots of good feedback on that messy UUP procedure.

You did make a blanket statement and it could be construed that you accused just about all of use of being "wimpy Insiders". Being an insider alone makes someone a bit more than "wimpy" and how one gets the build is irrelevant, IMO. I bet MS is getting lots of feedback on UUP with or without the participation of the few members that post on new builds. There are millions out there that are supplying feedback that we don't see and that's what matters.

And the latest build ESD for me was about 2.81GB. Not a huge download.

If we stop using that delivery method on principle, it's as dead in the water as Democracy is, if certain Politicians could have their way. (Now, I am name calling!)
And keep politics out of this.. there is no need and it's a rule violation.

Don't forget the marketing aspect, folks.
They're gonna keep cramming this stuff down our throats whether it works or not, to keep the 'fire burning', as it were.
They can't afford to get behind in this game and they're not about to lose!

It was an opinion, not harshly intended and I am also not getting a good experience with UUP, and I am also an Insider.

Perhaps "wimpy" is a stronger term of offence across the pond than over here, where generally it is a fairly good natured term for someone who is easily put off - if so, I apologise, but do not know a good alternative to replace it with.

Here's Thesaurus.com's take on it with all the possibly offensive synonyms expurgated:

    Sorry

I just thought of "half-hearted", which I don't think discriminates against people of vertical stature or with cardiac disabilities or both. I may be wrong.

Two attempts to install the update aborted with an unrecoverable error. Third times the charm. I am now running 15025. It fixed the issue with games being minimized. Game Mode is still broken for most games and hangs the computer when Game Mode is turned on in the settings so I would recommend to turn it off.
It looks like the "make text sizes larger or smaller" is gone for good so get use to using Winaerotweaker.

Even if UUP were working perfectly, I can't see that it would be a big benefit for the average consumer. Total download size for updates may be a little smaller, but that's not a problem for most people. Those on a metered connection might save a penny or 2. Microsoft would clearly be the main beneficiary because of bandwidth they would save. So if UUP is mainly for them, they should have made sure it was in better shape before they foisted it on us.

This one was real hard to start downloading. My Diagnostics and usage data option was disabled/grayed out. Did search on web first one said to delete AllowTelemetry in RegEdit and that allowed a download for Windows Defender but still can't get new build. Further searching said to change that value to 3 for AllowTelemetry and now downloading but my main problem is Game mode which postings say still isn't fixed.

    - it's important that UUP is thoroughly thrashed by us Insiders..
    - it will be the major component of future roll-outs..

    - we're chasing two rabbits at the same time, here..
