decompressing those cab-files is fast. Finding a file with a specific name in a deep directory structure and then verifying it's hash is slow.

For me, it was the prep work that took so long, the actual download & install, was close to the old system(ESD way).
I wonder it has to do with it looking at your settings, which default apps you have uninstalled, then writing an answer file to respect those whishes.
I did a "Reset" when I was having problems (turned out that the BSOD problem was caused by the VM's 3D graphics setting) so my W10IP only has Pale Moon installed.

I've turned off all of the App sharing (i.e. supposedly Privacy is set to max).

When I tried to get b15025 no progress had been made after ~7 hours.

Well I was going to not doing anything since I couldnt get 15025 to install, its gotten worse iwent back to 15014 rs from 15018/9? now its still trying to go to 15025 just sets there doing nothing now I cant even restore my machine to a earlier build. Is there any known fix for the issues ive got with this its eating up a ton of my hughesnet data.

    - looks like your best bet may be to*download the .iso file from MS direct, and do a clean install..

-*this may mean losing some of your prog/apps in the meantime, though you should get a stable version of the OS..
    - do you know anyone who*might be willing to download and save it for you - it can be run from a disk or a USB stick.. (??)

Don't have any games that would need help on this machine but I run benchmark Performance test with and without Game mode and without it score was 2999,7 and with it 3124.5.
you can get the same kind of results by changing priority, eg cinebench running normally vs raising the priority = large difference.

Thanks for the calm and reasoned reply Winona. :)

I am forced to disagree with:

...because "whatever their reasons are..." include builds that fail to download/install properly - such as the UUPs recently, builds that inexplicably crash computers on bootup, builds that have intolerable problems with certain graphics etc., or other hardware on certain machines - in which cases the only resort is to roll back, and wait for a new build that does not fail for those reasons - or as I have done once, go out and upgrade a piece of hardware that was conflicting, not necessarily before a build or two had passed on by.

Heck, a build or two has passed me by just by the sheer pace that the team drop them down to us!

If the Insider's reasons are out of necessity and not by choice, they cannot avoid missing certain builds until something changes. Nowt wimpy in that!

If that means MS offering alternative delivery methods, I guess that's OK, and I guess that the ability to use ESD alternatives lets them off the hook - but not forever.

I, and probably many others would prefer that MS released ISO downloads for every build, but it would be too easy to just rely on the ISO to "test the meat and 'taters", without visiting the eatery and checking out the service and facilities too.
I completely agree with this. New and different is what this insider experience is all about. Yes, we get upset about some changes but maybe the outcomes will be better.

I was a bit overoptimistic about my VMs upgrading to 15025 easily but have found a pretty sure fire to do it.

    1) Disable UUP be changing the registry value of EnableUUPScan and SupportsUUP to "0"

This does not work to get the ESD (because I believe that method is history) but does seem to force a download of all the code needed to upgrade to 15025. The registry values are reset to "1" after the upgrade. Thanks to Karl for the hacks. He did indicate that he didn't know how long MS would support ESD distribution. I don't always want to do fresh installs of a build after I've customized an installation but am glad that MS seems more forthcoming in realeasing ISOs to Insiders in a timely manner

Why a clean install using the ISO?
Why not try an Upgrade Install first, mount it in File Explorer, and click setup
